WARNING
Name of Maker: Wooda
WARNING - This is a story quilt made for a small retreat center on the Kansas Underground Railroad. Center is located along a line from Signal Oak to Blue Mound...where lanterns were hung in the stately old tree to warn of Quantrills coming across from Missouri to recapture slaves.Lantern signals were seen all the way to Mt. Oread where the Univ of Ks is located. The back ground is made of Kansas dugout blocks. X marks the spot of the center that has two meadow labyrinths which I embroidered by hand.
Eclipse
Name of Maker: Anne Carter and five friends
Eclipse - This was a brown bag (round robin) challenge issued by Sandy Corry, here in Australia. We each made a centre block -mine was a foundation pieced feathered star - and we passed the bag around for borders to be added. We had specific instructions i.e. add a 4" border with triangles, or, add an 8" border with curves etc. It was nervewracking trying not to mess up other people's quilts, but challenging & fun too! The quilt tops were revealed at a luncheon and I quilted mine in 2011 when it won the Viewers' Choice award at the Jacaranda City Quilters' exhibition in Grafton, N.S.W. Then in 2012 it was 2nd in the group category at The Sydney Quilt Show and also won Best Use of Colour at the Lower Clarence Arts & Crafts Show in Northern N.S.W. The borders were added by Christine Mitchell, Barbie Davis, Joanne Harland, Lynne Vincent & Sue Hayward. Thanks ladies!
Don't Worry, Be Happy 2 (mini)
Name of Maker: Shirlee Carter
Don't Worry, Be Happy 2 (mini) - This quilt is made from hexagon blocks, using 1 1/2", 60 degree triangles. I used commercial cotton, cotton/polyester variegated thread, ball fringe and Swarovski crystals. It was donated to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative in memory of my mom, who gracefully fought Alzheimers.
Long May She Wave
Name of Maker: E. Eastman
Long May She Wave - I won these BOM blocks in 2002 and used a setting by Laurine Leeke (Great Sets by Sharon Craig.) I only wanted a small (very small) wallhanging - LOL!
Bug Quilt
Name of Maker: Barbara Jones
Bug Quilt
Go Spot Go Quilt
Name of Maker: Barbara Jones
Go Spot Go Quilt - Made this quilt from a free downloadable pattern from accuquilt. I did make a few changes when it came to the fabric choices. This is my very first quilt and it was made for my youngest granddaughter for her second birthday.
Christies' Wedding Quilt
Name of Maker: Teresa Verney
Christies' Wedding Quilt - I based the pattern for this quilt on one showcased on Alex Andersons' Simply Quilts show. When my daughter married I made this quilt for her wedding present. I used colour wash fabrics on a white muslin background and had it professionally quilted.
Super Moon
Name of Maker: Dorothy Bargainnier
Super Moon - Roger photographed the Super Moon in May. I printed it on fabric, embellished and framed it for him as a birthday gift in June. I only used one thread twice and used about 20 altogether. All decorative stitches are different. The moon is done in trapunto with chiffon over it and outlined in silver thread. I have over 40 hours in this project and am super happy with it. So is Roger.
Enchanted Stars
Name of Maker: Nancy Davis
Enchanted Stars - I was "enchanted" by this pattern when I saw it in the 2005 Quilt Sampler magazine (the featured quilt for The Enchanted Room, Glendive, Montana). It took several years before I got around to making it.
Summer Picnic
Name of Maker: Nancy Davis
Summer Picnic - This Crazy Watermelon pattern reminds me of summer - lucious pink/red watermelon and bright colors. A lot of fun to make.
Stars and rockets
Name of Maker: Karen Mundt
Stars and rockets - This quilt was made as part of a challenge with my local quilt group. We had to make it with only 5 fabrics and using squares and half-sq triangles. I quilted it with an allover starts design, with flames coming from those blocks that looked a little like rockets!
Robyns Quilt
Name of Maker: Lucy Binnie
Robyns Quilt - combination of blocks to general theme of three bears with house in woods
Alex's Quilt
Name of Maker: Lucy Binnie
Alex's Quilt - Adapted magazine pattern adding Manchester United's knickname for their stadium and also red fred mascot
Shattered Circles
Name of Maker: Nancy Davis
Shattered Circles - Another scrap quilt using blues, yellows and whites. The curved seams slowed down the piecing process (I did a lot of pinning) but it was worth the extra time and energy. A gift for my sister and brother-in-law.
Changing Seasons
Name of Maker: Nancy Davis
Changing Seasons - This was my first friendship quilt. Members in my quilt guild made most of the leaf blocks but when I needed more, my husband pieced some for me, too. I designed the layout.
Amazing Grace II
Name of Maker: Nancy Davis
Amazing Grace II - Second in a series of music quilts. The score for "Amazing Grace" is quilted in red on the outer border.
