Tied In Knots
Name of Maker: Sylvain Bergeron
Tied In Knots - My first award winning quilt. Second in a series of design studies showcasing line and color in abstract geometric forms made entirely of embroidered thread, two intertwining loops crisscross each other in what appears to be a perpetual movement. The spacing of the lines allows the layers of color to show through in a translucent and dynamic effect. Multiple underlying patterns form under the main design element, creating an ever-changing picture based on the viewing angle. The overall effect suggests ropes tied in knots.
From Stitches Sprung The Fabric
Name of Maker: Sylvain Bergeron
From Stitches Sprung The Fabric - My first Art Quilt!!_br_ This is the foundation piece in a series of design studies showcasing line and color in abstract geometric forms. It demonstrates that embroidery can be the quilt design itself and not only an accent or motif in the quilt. The concentric arcs and the layering of the colors allow several patterns to form in a dynamic effect. When viewed from 9 feet away while moving sideways, the circles seem to spin in the resulting moiré effect. Hence from the (1.25 million) stitches spring the fabric and design.
In vorm
Name of Maker: miekenoor
In vorm - I made it because my husband likes 3D patterns so much. He likes it very much, but didn't like the name: "stars for my star". He's totally not in that kind of thing. So I renamed it into "in vorm", translated as "in good shape".

Trash to Treasure
Name of Maker: Pamela Wilsie
Trash to Treasure - I started this project the summer of 2004, using fabric I had on hand but didn't like, thinking it would probably end up in the trash. Well it did work and I was stuck with what I was now calling the Ugly Quilt. I had help picking out border fabrics and hoped while I hand quilted it, I would start to like it. No such luck until, I put it through the washer and dryer for the first time. I spent alot of time on it and was eager to see it clean and dry. When I pulled it out of the dryer the fabric had bled through the backing and all the stiched were red/orange, I was sick! I put it back through the wash and said a prayer. It came out beautiful - From Trash to Treasure!!
