Posies In Plaid
Name of Maker: QuilTena
Posies In Plaid - I used the appliqued flowers patterns from Piece O'Cake Plaids n' Stripes book, but changed the sashing/setting. I also used Ricky's piped binding technique...and it turned out great! Posies In Plaid won an Honorable Mention ribbon in the Medium Applique category at my guild's recent quilt show. I felt it needed to be hand quilted since it was hand appliqued, so I ventured in to my first hand quilting since the days I first learned to lap quilt with Georgia Bonesteel! I loved quilting by hand!
Desmond learning to fly
Name of Maker: Brenda Bailey
Desmond learning to fly - My Granddaughter had a story she loved me to read to her. Desmond was a poorly young dragon. He had bumps on his back that hurt and his Mummy called the doctor. Next morning he was feeling better but he had these funny things on his back - his Mummy laughed and said they were wings and sent him into the garden to learn how to fly, the butterflies said they would show him how. The quilt group I belong to gave us a challenge to use a given piece of fabric in a quilt no bigger that 24" Square so my desmond was born - the challenge fabric is in the celtic border, it's the one with flowers. The background was painted and the flowers and butterflies are Broiderie Perse. The sun is aceltic knot embroidered over the painted sun. this quilt won a Merit for original design at the quilt show put on by my group later that year.

Presented by
Name of Maker: PattyC
This block was made in memory of Diana Padro who was killed when the plane hit the Pentagon on 9-11. It was forwarded to the group that was making the 9-11 quilt. I made a duplicate copy, quilted it, and sent it to her husband. Did not hear from him for over a year. Then I received a Christmas card from him. He told me how much the block meant to him and that he kept it out to show. Diana worked in Finance, so I included coins in purple. The butterfly represented life. Wedding rings were added for her marriage. I selected Diana because we shared the same birthday, but I am older.
A Perfect Union
Name of Maker: Darlene c. Christopherson
A Perfect Union - This is the cover quilt to my book by the same name, published by C&T Publishing, Inc. in 2001. I hand pieced the patchwork and hand appliuqed the applique blocks, then hand quilted it using Hobbs 100% washable wool batting. I selected four colors and tried to remain close to the original choices thoughout and used a mellow background fabric to add an aged appearance. I was teaching groups of students an 8 class series while making my own quilt and writing the book. It took over two years to complete. I enjoyed the process.
