Converging Wild Dreams - Followed Ricky's Convergence book for the center, then added a few borders to make it larger and more colorful. My husband saw this and requested it as his, so I gave it to him, but now he has put it away, and I've taken it into my quilt room for color, and my cat sleeps on it!
Four Patch Garden - This is the common four patch with a gradational color diagonally. Theme is gardens and chickens. I used squares from a mail order catalog and found coordinating prints and solids that worked.
Eel River Convergence - I was lucky enough to spend a week at the Eel River Quilt Retreat with Ricky as my teacher. This is just one of the quilts I finished from that week.
Memory Quilt - This quilt was made as a present to a very dear friend and co-worker who retired on December 31, 2007. After several months of collecting the signatures and wishes of past and present employees, I assembled the quilt following the instructions of Ricky Tims in one of The Quilt Show presentations earlier in 2007. These blocks went together very quickly and easily and the quilt turned out wonderful. Judy received the quilt at her retirement dinner and was very touched. I want to thank Ricky for demonstrating his memory quilt block and giving me this great idea for a retirement present that will be treasured.
Blackberry Crop Circles - I actually saw Fons & Porter demonstrate this pattern on their TV show and jotted a few notes for later use. I thought I could use up those scraps of batting that were hanging around and wanted to make my sister a quilt. We were raised as berry lovers and when I saw the blackberry fabric I thought it would be perfect. I found the black and tan gingham fabric to coordinate. It's not nearly as bright as my other quilts. This was much more challenging than Fons and Porter made it look!
Visual Treat for Sherrie - This is a Christmas and Birthday gift for my sister Sherrie. She has visual problems and I thought the vivid colors and patterns would create visual interest for her. I started fabric selection with the white with black circle fabric, I found on sale for a $1.00 a yard. She's not necessarily a cowgirl, but I think we all like bandana print. So I worked with that. It's made up of mixed single fabric and nine patch blocks set on point. I signed it prominently on the front with hand embroidery to discourage theft, as she lives in a rehabilitation home. Matthew's Baby Quilt - I found a picture in a Connecting Threads magazine, so figured out what sizes to cut the pieces and how much fabric I would need to make this for a baby quilt, 48x48". I made 3 of these, each with different fabric themes.
Sunny Girls - Sunny Girls, mosaic picture pieced, photo of my grand nieces Hannah and Claire. Aren't they cute? They were 4 1/2 at the time and just bursting with fun. I made this when my Mosaic Picture Quilting idea was new. This piece has 23,100 pieces that are1/2". This quilt has been in many national shows and got a 3rd place in Houston. It's been in several magazines as well. I am so happy that people love the quilt (I sure do).
Leslie' Star - I have loved this pattern ever since I saw it in the magazine. I was born on Christmas Day and so renamed it Leslie's Star. It is still a work in progress.
After Treatment - After my radiation/chemo treatments I received the summer issue of Quilting Arts. They had one of their challenges on self portraits. It was fun to do.
Sunny Runner - I had just finished 2 very traditional quilts and needed to do something with no rules. It's rumpled and won't lay flat, the cheapo fabric faded, it's been spilled on, stepped on, and generally abused, which is what I made it for. Not a show quilt by any means, but it filled a need to make a fun quilt.
Tribute to Stu's First Elk, 2003 - My husband loves hunting. I wouldn't let him put a taxidermy mount in the house (I regret that, btw) so I made this to commemorate his first successful hunt. It only took a couple of days to paper piece, the pattern made it so easy! Also my first attempt at machine quilting.
In a Whirl - I tried to make this big enough for my king-size bed but vastly miscalculated. I gave it to my friend Lianne when she was diagnosed with cancer in December, she passed away on December 26. Now belongs to her husband Hank.
Treadle On Block Exchange quilt, 2004 - This quilt was made from blocks exchanged with other member of Treadle On, an online community of people powered sewing machine users. There are blocks made on treadle and handcrank machines ranging from over 100 years to around 60 years old, and from all parts of the USA plus a few from Canada.
I stitched the block together and quilted it on my 1904 Singer 27 treadle machine.
