My first wall hanging
Name of Maker: Jessimina
My first wall hanging - I made two small table runners before this project. This was my first real quilt (at least I think of it that way). While they are hard to see in this picture, I quilted stars around the outside border in light violet/purple metallic thread. I am way too new to try free form quilting so I used a template, and straight stitched the stars.

Garrys War Quilt
Name of Maker: Karen A. Kelly
Garrys War Quilt - This mini quilt was made for my friend Garry who will be shipping out for Iraq around August 24, 2007. I made it to show him MY support of our troops in Iraq. It is adapted from the Civil War when ladies of the house made a quilt for their husband, brother, father, fiancee or friend that was going off to war. It was a reminder for the soldier of his family waiting at home for him. I had Garry's family and friends sign his quilt so he can take it with him to help keep his family close, give him a pillow to lay his head upon and perhaps wear it under his shirt to help keep him safe. The size is approximately 24 X 17 inches so it is not an inconvenience to take with him. I also made a lined canvas bag for the quilt to be stored in when Garry comes home, in case (God forbid) one of his children has to go to war one day & then HIS or HER family can also sign it at that time.

Shisa
Name of Maker: Lea McComas
Shisa - Before moving to Colorado, I lived on the island of Okinawa, Japan. A common custom there is to place one or two Shisa lions at the entrance to a building or atop the roof. The Shisas are believed to ward off evil spirits and attract good fortune. Their appearance varies from ferocious to comical. This piece is made entirely from vintage kimono fabrics, and was inspired by the shisa atop my neighbor's roof.
