Identity Crisis

Identity Crisis - The pattern is based on a sampler quilt made in the 1870's. There are 98 blocks, each 6 inches square. I tried to use different fabrics in each block.

Kaleidoscope Mosaic

Que es KS?
Name of Maker: Jo Mrvichin

Que es KS? - This quilt is inspired by Ricky Tims visit to San Antonio; thanks to his instruction and creativity, and my stash! I've been wanting to make something for my sister, who lives in Kansas, but didn't want the same old country sunflowers. I used a large scale and a small scale print, with other batiks and dyed fabrics. I quilted it with various cotton, rayon, and metallic threads, and tacked on a thread painted sunflower done on a water soluable stabilizer. I planned the binding to accent the piece, and hand stamped and painted the solid golden color in the binding to add more interest. Thanks, Ricky!

Words of wisdom
Name of Maker: Jo Short
Words of wisdom - I made this table runner for our Catholic Daughter raffle. The squares were machine embroidered & then I used my imagination on the rest. I love bright colors. I included a bias black & white narrow border in each square.
Christmas Tablerunner
Name of Maker: Mary Anne
Christmas Tablerunner - My first quilt - a tablerunner in Christmas colors with pointsettias. As a beginner, I opted to finish the quilt without a binding. I really enjoyed the process...but I wasn't hooked!
Third Weekend in October

Third Weekend in October - I took about a year to gather all the material for this quilt. It is paper pieced.I worked on it for about 3 months, put it away for a year & then went back & finished it. It was a very hard quilt to make. I gave it to my sister & her family for Christmas. They live in Connecticut & when We visited them in October, this quilt reminds me of what We saw.

Quilt Inspired!
Name of Maker: Mary Anne
Quilt Inspired! - When I saw Jean Wells technique on TQS, my first thought was how cool it would be to make monograms or spell out words! Inspiration takes time, but here it is...
Under the Sea
Name of Maker: self
Under the Sea - I wanted to try the pattern Yellow Brick Road. The pattern features use of fat quarters, but I had a print with sea life and colors I just loved, so added fat quarters to complete it. Probably took some liberties with the block placements. :-)
Hopi Basketry
Name of Maker: Mary Anne Strauss
Hopi Basketry - I wanted to make another southwestern quilt and had recently visited Hopi Land in AZ, so this pattern using the 9 degree wedge ruler caught my eye. It was fun to make and I taught several classes to make this quilt at local quilt stores over the next couple of years. The center circle is appliqued onto the quilt top, which is then cut out behind the circle before quilting. It was a challenge to quilt; but, I learned a lot doing it!
Kachina Sand Painting
Name of Maker: Mary Anne Strauss
Kachina Sand Painting - I was intrigued by Cheryl Phillips' circular quilts in her book, Quilt Without Corners, and loved this one, using the 9 degree ruler. It was quite a challenge to piece so I learned a lot. The designs in the center circle, as well as the center circle itself, were appliqued onto the top by machine. I really enjoyed quilting it on my Juki. It was also a challenge to hang, which was solved by hanging it on many "between" needles. Needless to say it doesn't come down often. I carefully dust it with the vacuum turned on low power. It really looks great in our bedroom, which was painted to coordinate with quilt.
Save Our Siberians
Name of Maker: Pat and Cheryl
Save Our Siberians - Pat, Cheryl and her quilting group created a quilt which was raffled at SHCA Nationals in NY. The quilt background was "Storm at Sea" with a paw print border. It features six portraits depicting Siberian Huskies with various coat, eye and nose colours
My Mexican Stars
Name of Maker: Mary Anne Strauss
My Mexican Stars - I liked this bright and cheery pattern, which uses "straight seam piecing with curved results” methods. The piecing is fast, fun and easier than it looks! It went together in a day. I had fun machine quilting it, too.
Stairway to the Stars
Name of Maker: Pat Bozeman
Stairway to the Stars - Made as a fundraiser for Race the Wind Greyhound Adoption of Kansas. Pictures of retired racers are included in the quilt. Auctioned off at Greyhound America 2007, Abilene, Kansas.
Galactica!
Name of Maker: Mary Anne Strauss
Galactica! - I was inspired to draw many different Mariner's Compass designs after taking Kathy Delaney's class "The Mariner's Compass Is Our Friend". All the Mariner's Compasses were drafted by me. The circular, regular Mariner's Compass was set in using Ricky Tim's method I learned his seminar in Mesa, AZ. The irregular Mariner's Compasses were pieced with the background. All the center circles were appliqued on by hand. I really had fun designed and constructing this quilt.

valentine breakfast fund raiser 1994 - Sorry this is such a bad picture. It is a scan from an old 35 mm taken from my stairs to the living room floor. Very bad perspective
