Cathedral Impressions
Name of Maker: Janet Hartje
Cathedral Impressions - This quilt was created for the MCQ Challenge, Melange a Trois. It will be in the Minnesota Quilt Show in June, 2010. I was inspired by Claude Monet's painting Rouen Cathedral. I tried to recreate his cathedral using a bleach pen to discharge fabric. Since this was 'a trois' I made two more Cathedral's, each a little different. The unifying piece is the angelina fiber stained glass window. I created a mat and frame so it would look more like a piece of art, such as the original 'Rouen Cathedral'.
Norma's Quilt
Name of Maker: Sue Wood
Norma's Quilt - This quilt was started during the Australasian Quilt Convention in 2009 in Melbourne in a class with Beth Miller from Australia. It was made for my sister who suffers from Alzheimer's. She has always been a bit of a zany person and loves her cats so this central fabric seemed perfect.
Accident 1 (Green)
Name of Maker: mc555
Accident 1 (Green) - Saw Youtube demo on raised Cathedral Window squares ,got carried away making them, using fabrics from my stash. Made loads both with green and pink borders. Use them in a quilt ?? Teamed the windows up with Celtic Blocks from Philomena's Wiechec's pattern book I had. My first mixed green/pink design I did not like. Back to make more squares and blocks and hence my first quilt by accident grew. There are loads of things that are not perfect and it is the first quilt I have made without a finished picture to follow and it certainly helped pass a long, weary Winter
Accident 2(Pink)
Name of Maker: mc555
Accident 2(Pink) - I set out to try out raised cathedral window seen on Youtube and ended up making two quilts "by accident". Got carried away making windows , then put my thinking cap on as to how to use them. Trial and error -I teamed them up with celtic designs and finished up spending a long weary winter making two quilts which I had not really planned to do. Was determined to use material I had (and not buy more) but of course I had to buy background fabric. I had to "fudge" lots of things but the end result is okay and I made them for pleasure not a competition I have entered SWRI competitions and they are very strict it was good to enjoy them and not bother about judges

Snow falling in New York
Name of Maker: Adele Dunnigan
Snow falling in New York - Check the first Snowflake for the story of this saga. However, this project with 2500 - 3000 pieces would never look like it does without the help of a TQS member Becky Kelher from Colorado. To do one of these flakes required a very specific fabric that was produced 10 years ago. She had it stored in her treasure chest, and very kindly offered it to me along with all she had from the same family of blues. We met on line here after my first flake was out. The fabric series was called Serendipity, and indeed it was just that kind of a relationship. This was a 8 month project. The quilting was done with invisible thread, as I just couldn't bear to take away from the art of piecing.

When you hear hoofbeats...
Name of Maker: greengables65
When you hear hoofbeats... - Based on a photo taken by my son of two Grevy's zebras in the National Zoo, Washington, DC. It is done in reverse applique by machine, the edges of the stripes are distressed to resemble hair, the manes are thread painted with variegated and metallic thread. The borders are woven and attached separately. Machine quilted in the approximation of a zebra stripe pattern.
