Benham-Brown Family
Name of Maker: Nancy Nelson
Benham-Brown Family - This quilt was inspired by a crossword puzzle quilt I saw in a magazine. It is to honor the melding of 2 families with the marriage of my father to Jackie Brown, after my mom died.
Let The Good Times Roll
Name of Maker: Barb Nankivell
Let The Good Times Roll - This quilt was made for one of the members of our Girls Nite Out group that have been friends for over 27 years. Last year we found out the youngest member of our group had cancer of the liver. I decided to make her a memory quilt using photos of some of our events that had taken place over the years. I asked each of the girls to write a message of encouragement (love) that I incorporated on the back of the quilt. On the front I used photo transfer squares for the center of the stars. We wanted our friend to wrap herself in the quilt and feel the love we felt for her during her recovery process. I don't know if the quilt made any difference but I am so happy to report that the latest news is very encouraging.

Bordered Stars

Bordered Stars - I adapted Sue Garman's block of the month pattern to fit a specific spot on the wall of my new home. Happy with how it finished. What to do with all those premade stars I have left over. Another quilt perhaps.

A Stitch in Time
Name of Maker: Carole Anne Patterson & 1st Grade Class of 2006/07
A Stitch in Time - I was given a video of Kim Denault's apperance on Alex's show "Simply Quilts" and I got in touch with Kim via email. The 1st graders drew patterns, I traced them on tracing paper, placed the tracing paper over four layers of flannel fabric and sewed the design together with the children. I cut through the layers to reveal different the colors, and the pictures came to life. I clipped the seams to 1/4, then clipped every 1/4 of an inch to create a raggedy affect when it was washed. Carefully the squares were placed and the rows sewed together. I then embroidered details, placed buttons and it turned out too cute!! Kim featured the quilt and the 1st Grade class in her book...they thought they were famous! The quilt sold at our school auction that year and it was the highest item sold.
Kinder
Name of Maker: Carole Anne Patterson & Kindergarten Class
Kinder"garden"
God Bless America
Name of Maker: Carole Anne Patterson & 3 Grade Class At SFA
God Bless America - The Applique designs came from Vintage Classics, Lisa DeBee Shiller and I adapted the pattern from the McCalls "A Nation's Pride" to fit all of the children's pinwheel blocks . The 3rd Graders picked out reproduction Civil War fabrics from my collection and we sewed together using thangles (so easy). I sewed the center flag and they placed their signed squares around it. Borders were added and the applique designed sewn on. The back of the quilt had a reproduction print of the Declaration of Independence. This quilt was sold at our Saint Francis of Assisi School Auction.
