Baskets of Applique

Bullfinch and Blackberries - A block I learned to applique at the Elly Sienkiewicz Applique Academy in Williamsburg 2007 in Shirley Bloomfields class.

Henry - These applique blocks are from Ellen Hecks applique patterns. It is not finished yet but will be real soon. It has taken two years to finish the hand appliqued blocks, I just need to sew them together! I used a background of hand dyed fabric in a dark navy blue with a photo impression of leaves in the background. I think it added a lot on interest to the overall design.

Mikes black Belt - I designed this block for my son when he completed his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He used it on his twin bed for a few years until he got older. Now we use it for guests!

Michaels Quilt - Quilt was designed and made for a guild member who lost her son in Afghanistan in 2008. It commemorates is life as a Marine.

Beach Flowers - This quilt was made a a block exchange in my local Countryside Quilters guild. the pieced blocks were done using a given block and a "focus" fabric that was used with each member adding their own colors from their stash. I added the appliqued flowers on point to bring all the blocks together. It reminds me of something used at the beach for picnics! Maybe I'll have a beach house one day to use it!

Autumn Bargello - I made this quilt for a friend, and presented it to her over the Christmas holiday in 2005. I like how the border print fabric frames the center design.

Lisa's - This quilt was made for my sister, she loves the orient and I hope this is just what she wanted.

Lone Star

Dad's Zinnias - There are two blocks one square with a large flower fabric (zinnia) and the other is a nine patch with six squares and one rectangle. Dad only said that he wanted something bright and that is what he got.

Roses Splendor - Twelve blocks of wreaths, and other traditional rose patterns with double dogtooth edged border with climbing rose.

Kath's Bag - Free Charm Pack Tote from www.buttonberry.typepad.com uses one charm pack fun to make. Made for neighbour Kathy who is always making things for others.

Baby Girl Windmill Quilt - I had seen interlocking windmill patterns, but decided to create my own. I chose three fabrics that I liked -- next time I would use four -- it would be easier to make sure they aren't touching!

Paisley Feathered Star - 2009 Hoffman Challenge. I had started 3 different designs and did not like any of them. Then I thought of the feathered star that we were doing with TQS and Sue. You know one of those light bulb moments. I knew I had to try it and I really like the way is came out. Used only Hoffman fabric.
