TOPIC: Paper pieced?

Re: Paper pieced? 27 Jan 2013 20:15 #96279

Thanks Margo for the tip on Ricky's Stable Stuff. I purchased some several years ago at a Super Seminar. However, since I am almost halfway through the paper piecing, I am reluctant to switch now. I think they would look different.

Looking at the way the points are lined up on the "real" quilt, that's not the way I thought the points would line up. I just went back and looked at the Zoom Quilt. Those points are certainly not lined up "perfectly". So what if they aren't :D :D :D On with the show...

As I was sewing/ripping/resewing my paper piecing to the center strips yesterday, I finally had to invoke the law of the universe taught to me by a colleague: better is the enemy of good. In my zeal to lime those points up "precisely" I was starting to make mincemeat out of my fabric. After that, my evening at the sewing machine was much more fun. Margo's picture makes me think that Pat and Sue must feel the same way! Thanks for the validation! :)

I just cut all the pieces for my second half. Unless I miss counted, I don't think I ran out of fabric. Do we need this blue for another section?

My assembled units are not perfect. My points are pretty good, but they don't all line up exactly opposite each other across the center bar.

For what it's worth, I just saw the original quilt at the Ricky Tims' Super Seminar in Atlanta!

I learned of another way to do paper piecing!! Just use Ricky's Stable Stuff when you print the designs from the computer!
When the fabric is sewn on and the units trimmed, you DON'T NEED TO REMOVE THE PAPER! :D

Why didn't I think of that?? It's brilliant!

Now if it would just match these needle-sharp points on either side of the center strip, we'd really be in business! :?

Dixie, I saw in your profile that you're from NC. Did you buy the seam destroyer at the show in Statesville yesterday?

I used one staple on top and bottom to join the 2 paper pieces. Quick and they did not get in the way.

Re the Wahl Seam Destroyer: Some enterprising person should put the word Quilter on it, get a lime green casing, charge $30 and market it at Quilt Market and make a fortune. Not me, I just retired. (I said that already, didn't i? :D :D )

Edit: Dixie, did it say Wahl mustache and sideburn trimmer? How much was it? The curious want to know.
