thank you ladies - you are all so fabulous.

i have the ruler, rosemary - but there the problem is again that i have to look what i'm doing... the add-a-quarter have this great indentation that you push up to the fabric - so much quicker than "lining" things up.

but margo - of course - hits the nail on the head - how could it be any other way.
and best of all: I ALREADY HAVE THE CUTTING EDGE! the package is right there in my sewing stuff - waiting to be fixed to a ruler

this is perfect - THANK YOU!

Lotti, I really like Marcia Baker's Cutting Edge, and it will work for marking your lines too!

In a pinch, you could also just stick a couple of layers of painter's tape along the appropriate line as a stop for the edge of your fabric!

Lotti, do you think Susan Cleveland's Piping Hot Binding Tool would work for your purposes? Maybe you can go to her website http://www.piecesbewithyou.com/home.htm and look at it to see if it's what might work or better yet, I think she demonstrated it on one (or both) of the shows she did on TQS. Let me know if it works--I can check the local quilt shops around here to see if they have it. Just want to make sure it will work for you. Let me know.

Would either of these be what you are after, Lotti?

or you could just cut 1/4" strip off an old credit card (or similar) for the job.

i have the "add-a-quarter" rulers, both 6 and 12inch, havn't ever seen the "add-an-eighth" - will have to be on the lookout for that this spring/summer.

what i'm also looking for is the opposite - one that has the groove on the other side - so that i can slide it over a fabric edge and mark a quarter inch sewing line... would be a great help for my "on-the-go" handpiecing projects. as i just use strips or squares for those, it would be great to mark the quarter inch seam allowance. i started marking it with a regular ruler at first - have also used the add-a-quarter for that - but as i just use it as a guide - it's still a bit tedious. the result is that i generally gave up marking and just eyeball it - ending up with the wierdest seam allowances - but hey - it's handmade and i only use it for stuff where it's not really important (blog hopefully online soon with the black-white swirl quilt).

but if anyone ever comes accross that one - buy me one too - i'll be very very happy to pay for it and shipping and a pack of chocolates on the side

Great for miniature quilts! :D

I used the Add-an-Eighth ruler on the Sedona Star BOM 2012 stars and it worked beautifully. In fact, it was more appropriate than the Add-a-Quarter... I also have the Add-a-Quarter ruler--love them both!

Yea! The last video is now available! daily-blog/106-website-features/16387-bom-2013-a-freezer-paper-method-with-margo-clabo

Use Freezer Paper for your foundation and you won't have any paper to remove!!

Also: I am new to this video stuff! Please accept my apology for being zoomed in so close. I didn't realize that the actual videos would cut several inches off around the entire perimeter of what I was seeing on the camera's viewfinder! I'll try to do better in the future.

Margo, I've heard of this technique several years ago, however, never had the opportunity to implement it. Thank you for a great video. I haven't started my triangle strips as yet, still working on quilting my Sedona Star, but I am gathering fabrics and have my template patterns printed out. Looking forward to more videos and your wonderful techniques.

Margo -
Excellent video on freezer paper piecing. Your instructions are very clear - and it is such fun to get to hear your voice! In addition to running the paper through your printer or sewing through the paper with an unthreaded machine, it is also possible to trace the pattern right on the paper side. If the piece of freezer paper is long enough, you can (carefully) combine the two half patterns into one long section for the interior triangle bars in the quilt. Thanks for doing this - you continue to make the quilt world a better place!
Best wishes,
Mike

Mike, what a great idea of making that strip longer. The forum really is a great place for sharing tips. Thank you.

Good morning Margo!
I wanted to say "thank you" yet again! I just watched your video on paper piecing with freezer paper, and your explanation is crystal clear. I have read about this technique before, but it seemed very difficult. Thanks to your video and tips, I will be taking this technique for a test drive this weekend. :D

Take care!

Kathy
