TOPIC: Jacqueline de Jonge's colourful quilt

Re: Jacqueline de Jonge's colourful quilt 31 Aug 2014 12:16 #121135

I have been working on the quilt and have run into a problem. I have completed the first 4 steps (through the 4 corners). One of the corners is not laying flat. The whole piece measures the same through the middle both horizontally and vertically. The diagonals are equal as well so I know the piece is square. I am very frustrated. Has anyone else had a problem? I'm an experienced quilter with lots of paper piecing under my belt so I don't know what went wrong here.

Ladies, Aren't you familiar with "3M Command Damage free Hanging Hooks, etc"? They work with a adhesive removable strip and they come in lots of styles and uses, I have seen them at Walmart, surely available many other places. Leaves no residue, removable following simple directions and can be reused with refills. Just a happy client of these.

Great work seen so far, hope I can do as good with my wall-hanging. Kathy in Colo

Very pretty, Rochelle!

For hanging small wallhangings like this one, I just use thumb tacks. Not push pins, but the flat, old-fashioned thumb tacks. I slip a tack inside each side of the hanging sleeve and then just push them into the wall from the front. Very inexpensive, very easy and no damage to the quilt or the wall.

Finished the top today. Whew. A couple of little tucks here and there but overall, I am very pleased. Now to quilt and bind. I'd do it again because I learned so much and need to reinforce all those lessons. But the list of projects is unending. Don't relish drawing out the pattern pieces on paper to tear away.

Does anyone have any ideas for printing on larger pieces of newsprint?

For small quilts I have used wooden dowels just a bit shorter than the width of the quilt. Then used small screw eyes (1/4" eyes) screwed into the dowel at 2 places. I cut 2 small slits near the top of the hanging sleeve for the eyes to poke through and put fray check on the slits. Then I hang it with 2 small nails pounded into the wall. It's an invisible way to hang a quilt and an easy patch. The holes in the wall are nearly invisible too if you can used fairly small nails.

It looks like a Martelli Ergonomic rotary cutter. You can purchase it online at Martelli Enterprises or at a quilt show when there's a Martelli booth at the show. I have had mine for five years and love it! :D

I am wondering about the rotary cutter she uses, who makes it and where do they sell them? Jan

Beautiful quilts. Such variety. I've made two but now I need to get busy quilting.

I looked up how to make sleeves (thank you Margo, Sharon and Libby) but how do I hang it?

What is your favorite way to hang a small wall hanging? I think it would look best if the rod wasn't distracting. "Happiness" makes enough of a statement:)

These are gifts and I would like to send the hardware with them. One quilt I gave away they used push pins to hang it up. A compliment that they liked it enough to hang it but push pins probably not so good for the quilt.

I would like it to be as invisible as possible and not damage their walls too much.

Thanks for any help.

Barbara
