TOPIC: August Block of the Month

04 Aug 2008 18:17 #23451

Ritzy, Bridget, and Maggie - great blocks! Each one is individual, just like each of you! I am still slowly making progress on mine - needleturn. And I want to try to turn the brown stems, just to see if I can do it!

Got those French Knots done and my picture is posted. I used a variegated brown for the thread.

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, where it is so humid outside my windows are fogging up! Yikes! I hope it rains tonite!

Ditto from me for Ritzy and Bridget. The blocks are beautiful. Mine is finished and soaking in Retayne overnight to get out the buildup of glue. I ended up doing the small stems in small zig zag stitch and French knots. After looking at a closeup of Bridget's block I realized I had completely forgotten the small stems of baby's breath in the center of the grouping!! I may put it in or I may just leave it out. Will decide tomorrow.

Great work, Briget and Ritzy. I brought mine to work today in case it was slow. .................... It wasn't! Nothing done.

Bridget--your block is beautiful. I am going to finish my baby's breath after the quilting is done. I have some beads that are cup shape and you can put a small seed bead inside that I am thinking of using. I have to get them out and see if their size is right. If not, I will use crystals or french knots. I will add a new picture when I get it done.

Now I am really confused :? . I originally thought I like the black background and wondered what should I do as I really haven't started yet. But instead, I bought some light background and now after looking at Ritzy's blocks, the black really make the bold colors pop. I think I need to buy some black. I guess you always go with your first choice. Hmmmmmmm :!: :!: Judy in AZ

Ritzy and Bridget, AWESOME blocks! Ritzy, are you gonna do more embellishment with the baby's breath, or leave as is? I think it looks great as is. Also, leaving off the large leaves looks great. Love you color choices for the flowers!

Bridget, I know what you mean about those french knots! That is what I am working on right now. Gonna catch up on some of series 3 shows that I have yet to view while I am doing them!

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, enjoying quality time in my quilting room!

What great colors Ritzy! I finished my block today as well and posted it on my profile. I have learned that I don't really like doing french knots but love how they look on the block!

Ritzy--You're our speed BOM'er! I just love the dark backgrounds. I'm downloading all the patterns and they're on my "gonna do it someday" list! With darks!

To answer Susan's question, up until recently, I worked on one project at a time. I like to see things finished in a timely manner. Unfortunately, I've now become a typical quilter with several projects going at once. When the new BOM is available, I put aside what I've been working on until the new BOM block is complete.
