Thanks for the support, ladies. Maybe between us we can keep the quilt police so busy they don't have time to bother anyone else. Marge

changes to a BOM block 05 Jun 2008 08:48 #19325

Marge, don't worry about taking a little "poetic license" with your blocks I agree with Margo it is lovely. And if the "BOM squad of the quilting police are going to arrest someone for "alteration of a pattern" felony, They will be after me long before they look for you. First of all all my blocks are mirror images of the pattern because in the beginning I was too dumb to do them right and once I started I thought shoot just keep on doing it that way. Secondly my black and whites are just plain funky and often quite different placement because of some of the things I use to make them. And now, silly me I have started a miniature set of blocks in Brazilian and silk ribbon embroidery. When you look up crazy in the dictionary, you will find my picture. LOL

So go for it girl. I will keep the BOM police squad too busy for them to even worry about you.

Thank you for the comments, Judy and Linda. I wasn't sure how many liberties I could take with the pattern; but when I put the pieces down on the background, I really liked the way it looked. My apologies to Susan.

Aw, shoot, Marge. I think that Sue will really like it!! That's the beauty of applique. It's so much fun to really make it your own!

If printing the patterns counts, and I think it does, I'm not as far behind as I thought! Thanks for setting me straight as to the definition of "getting started." Love it, love it.

Now, I just need to finish January and start appliqueing February (which I've already cut out.) :-)

I love all the beautiful May and June blocks that have been posted. Now that I'm home from CA I need to get started on catching up. I do have May and June printed out....does that count as having started????

June block is done and posted on my profile page. It was so much easier than all the others. Wished we had started off with this one..........except it is nice to have a little break from all those berries. I love, love, love Sue Nickels machine applique "by hand" techniques. I took a class from her 3 years ago in Paducah at MAQS.

Marge, I love what you did with the stems. It looks very realistic - you must know your tulips!

My June block is posted. This one was quite easy, but it looks like July will be much more challenging. Marge

Marge your colors are blending so nicely together. I really like how you staggered the stems in the June block. I saw your block this morning and thought "oh geez, I did it wrong. But you did it so cleverly different" Your idea worked out great.

They've had a lot of rain in NW Arkansas. We'll probably head back in a few days, then north to Wisconsin. I want to be back to Wisconsin by mid-June; the family is gathering for the 4th at our house! Including Adam, Miriam, and family. They are being really brave to travel when he's so young, but I know they're anxious for the rest of the (midwest) family to meet him! It's been such fun to share our joy with all of you - thanks for putting up with this proud (and happy) grandma! :D

Nancy, your block is great. Thanks for sharing! I can't believe you've finished already. I won't be able to start until I get back to my fabrics (in Arkansas). Probably there in a week or so.

I must have missed the posting about the baby...what was it and how are he or she and mom?? You'll have some catching up to do when you get home!

Thanks for asking, Mommy and babe are doing fine - Adam is 9 days old! There are pictures posted in my blog, if you'd like a peak. We are all very thankful - he's a joy.

Don't feel bad, Sandy, all I've done is LOOK at it, and also checked out the finished blocks that are posted! But I'm resigned; I know I have to wait until I get back to Arkansas.
