In 2010, TQS will treat you to not one, but two Sue Garman Block-of-the-Month quilts! Both quilts--one applique and one pieced--are bright and cheery, sure to be showstoppers on a bed or wall. Once again, Sue will offer lots of instruction and tips along with the patterns. Be ready: This is "the year of quilting" as Sue helps you enliven your quilts with many quilting options.
Don't miss out on the fun and learning available to you through the TQS BOM quilting community. Click here for the fabric requirements so you can be ready when we launch both patterns on January 1, 2010. (Word to the wise: We sold out our 2009 BOM quilts quickly, so be sure to get your 2010 kit(s) early by visiting the TQS Shoppe.) We are very excited to offer you this opportunity and look forward to you seeing your work as the year progresses.
Thank you. Actually no batiks. I rarely buy kits, but loved the fabrics for this quilt. The fabric line is Whisperings by Alex Anderson for P&B Textiles. Pattern for this and Hugs and Kisses, also a 2010 BOM, were designed by Sue Garman. It was fun to put together. Looks like the pattern is available on line if you are interested.
It looks wonderful, Lorna! I can see the texture from the quilting, but it doesn't distract at all from the stars. Perfect! I'm sure your DGD loves it!!

As simple as the quilting is, I struggled with the concept before starting--not the straight line pattern, but sewing over the bright colors with a white thread. White thread seemed the logical choice because of the background. I noticed at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham that sometimes an all over design really distracts from the fabric and design of a quilt. I think sometimes it is because the thread is too much contrast for the fabrics. But what to do when your fabrics contrast?! I wanted the quilting in the background and not to distract from the colorful stars. I used Superior's So Fine thread in white and it seemed to blend with which ever color it was on.

Lorna, what a great quilt and I'm sure it's going to be very much loved! I like your quilting too--what a great idea to keep the quilting simple, the stars really stand out!

Lorna I love it! And I really like the way you quilted it too - probably much more appropriate for a DGD, but you are far too young looking to have a DGD!

Woohoo! I finally got it posted. I don't think it liked the previous file name. You can't tell from the picture but this one I quilted in straight lines from one end to the other about 3/4 inch apart. I loved how it turned out...and so does my DGD.
Here's the detail photo.

Wow, Lorna! You're just knocking them out left and right! Can't wait to see this one, too!
Hope you get a chance to work on yours next year, Lois. It'd be nice that get that crossed off of your list. I still have 2 BOMs sitting around waiting for me to have time to work on them.
