In 2010, TQS will treat you to not one, but two Sue Garman Block-of-the-Month quilts! Both quilts--one applique and one pieced--are bright and cheery, sure to be showstoppers on a bed or wall. Once again, Sue will offer lots of instruction and tips along with the patterns. Be ready: This is "the year of quilting" as Sue helps you enliven your quilts with many quilting options.

Don't miss out on the fun and learning available to you through the TQS BOM quilting community. Click here for the fabric requirements so you can be ready when we launch both patterns on January 1, 2010. (Word to the wise: We sold out our 2009 BOM quilts quickly, so be sure to get your 2010 kit(s) early by visiting the TQS Shoppe.) We are very excited to offer you this opportunity and look forward to you seeing your work as the year progresses.

So beautiful, Janet. The colors are so perfect and amazing quilting. Thank you so much for posting this one--I'm tempted to go for it... :D

It's beautiful Janet. You have inspired me to give it a go some time soon. I need to make two wedding quilts and I think this would be a lovely one for that. Thanks. :D

Here is a close up of quilting done by Marilyn Lange. My goal for this coming year is to practice free motion so I can quilt my own quilts.
I used fabrics from my stash and really like all the bright colors inspired by this BOM.

I have a Berina 1800 and am afraid to free motion. You said you used the walking foot only on the circles. What foot did you use for the free motion?
Janet

Hi Janet -

Bernina has several feet that are good for FMQ. I like #24 (open toe) and #9 (closed toe). I use the open toe most of the time because I like the visibility. I use the closed toe it there is hand stitching or something on the quilt that might catch on the foot, if the quilt has a lot of thick seams that I need to go over or if I'm using extra-thick batting and need the closed toe to smoosh it flatter for me. They also have clear plastic FMQ feet, but for me the view through the plastic distorts where the line is a bit. You should try several feet, if you can, to find the one(s) that work best for you.

Janet, you might want to check out Patsy Thompson's videos in her TQS Classroom! Lots of great info for free motion quilting.

Carole, even people who are "quilt savvy" should be impressed by it! You did a great job!

Thanks. I know it's not perfect, but I did it myself without a longarm, and I didn't have to pay anyone else to do it for me, so that made me VERY HAPPY! The quilt is on my bed every day and I enjoy it, and that's what counts!! People who aren't "quilt savvy" and who haven't seen the marvelous machine quilting that is done by many quilters nowadays, are truly impressed by it. :D
