Here is my second block. This one will only be wall sized. I took a picture of a couple from church and used them for the dimension and detail. Then I took a picture of the Pastor's daughter and made the face of Mary hers. Doesn't really look like either of the models but I am happy with it. Thanks to Karen for help with my gold/frankincense/myrrh containers.

Here you go Margo! Now with setting triangles and piping!

I used the freezer paper on the back technique, painted the seam allowance with starch and pressed back with a craft iron.
Glue basted in place and appliqued by hand.
Makes for a lot of prep but I wasn't happy with the regular needle turn or the freezer paper on top method, even after pressing it just wasn't crisp enough for me.

I can't wait till the first of the month for more instructions!

And thank you to everyone for all the wonderful comments! there are some lovely blocks posted up here!

Tammy, your block is lovely!! And nice job on your applique!!! You've done a wonderful job of scattering the fabrics on the leaves.

Tammy, your block is beautiful! I love the fabrics that you chose for your leaves. All of your fabrics look wonderful together. I can hardly wait to see what you chose for your triangles!

Eileen, I used stable stuff and appliqued the block I made for Margo by hand. It was a little tougher simply because the applique was stiffer and didn't bend as well as I was working on it but not unduly so. After I washed the block it was perfect and I loved the effect of using it.

JoJo, I love the block that you posted last Tuesday. What are the stems made of?

OK, so here is what I did. I unsewed a couple of inches on each side of the top-center of the heart and then resewed them at the place they should have fallen. Then I added an extra leaf and three berries and I think I can live with it. I am still considering mistletoe but for right now I will live with it for a while. In the mean time I am working on the second block I am doing--it is also Christmas but I think it will just be a wall hanging size.

Thanks for the info on the Stable Stuff. I think I may just use it for the leaves because I have a heck of a time with points.

Ritzy,
I love your block! It looks very Victorian to me. Mine's a little off as well so ours can lean together :D
