Good point, Janice! I will update the PDF file with a better explanation! Does this make more sense?

You will need to make two placement templates out of template plastic to fussy cut these triangles to make the designs line up. Start with a square that measures 8-3/8” x 8-3/8”, and cut it in half once diagonally.

The long side of your triangle should measure 11-7/8”, and the height at the center should be 6”. On one of these triangles trim away ¼” from the two short sides to use with mirrors to determine your placement on the striped fabric.

Janice, do you mean that you don't know how to hold the mirrors at the correct angle, or that you don't know where on the fabric to put the mirrors?

If you have made a template of the EXACT shape that you need, you just put it on the fabric where you want to check the design. Set the mirrors down right on the edges of the template, then remove the template to see the reflected design. You will then need to make another template with the seam allowances added and registration marks.

Hope that helps....

Thanks Margo....I have read it several times....however, I am still confused as to how to line up the corners, to match the design. I will work on it.

Margo....or anyone........... where, if any, is there a show or video of how to make matching mitered corners for a border, using mirrors????? I have my mirrors now and I want to try and make matching mitered corners. However, I am unable to locate a video regarding it. I need a video, as I am a visual person....I have to see it to do it. :(

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Janice, I'm afraid that it's only a PDF file with lots of photos, not a video, but I show using mirrors to miter the corners of the 2011 Beloved Beauties in my additional January instructions:

I am just amazed by the creativity I've seen. Usually, I'm right in there with one of the first to post. I decided to finish my 2010 BOM first- almost done. For 2011, I'm going with scrappy reds using some of Margo's ideas. I need to get the background fabric yet - light fabric that reads white or cream (that I like) is hard to find in the amount needed. I'm starting my washing and starching on the reds and greens. What a joy to see what has been done so far.

Here is my second block. This one will only be wall sized. I took a picture of a couple from church and used them for the dimension and detail. Then I took a picture of the Pastor's daughter and made the face of Mary hers. Doesn't really look like either of the models but I am happy with it. Thanks to Karen for help with my gold/frankincense/myrrh containers.

Here's my medallion. I'm going to extend the green inner boarder outsite of the outer boarder by adding a portion of the vine & berries from the center applique. That's what I have in my mind, anyway. Now to wait until the February work is posted. My, do you know I will probably change my mind 15 times before February? LOL.
