TOPIC: Road to California 2011

Re: Road to California 2011 08 Feb 2011 22:17 #57149

I'm on Road to California's email list (as a volunteer). I just received one announcing the winners' names, etc. and saying that the info hasn't been posted on their website because their web person is in the process of moving. The list is too long to post here so if anyone wants the info about all the winners, let me know and I will forward Road to CA's email to you.

While my daugher IS an artist, and she does 'design' quilts, she'd rather leave the quilt 'making' to me - at least for now. AND she'll be turning 8, so she has birthday ideas involving roller skates or bouncy houses and other 8 year old girls  Maybe when she's older...

Yes! One for Washington! Tulalip is literally about a 10 minute drive from my house - maybe I'll get to take a class someday :D I see she has 2 openings left for a 2 day workshop in March. Too bad one of the days is my daughter's birthday... How bad of a mom would I beeee....?

I think you are right Keith, but I don't remember the name of the quilter. I will look around and se if I can find it. I don't think she was a TQS member though.

Hi Eileen! I think it was a nature picture quilt - very beautiful and well done - except it wasn't a real picture - it was natural looking but the maker's fantasy nature scape - a boulder with a hole in it - sort of a rock bridge. I don't know the name of the piece or the maker(s). This probably isn't much help... especially if I'm wrong...

If I'm right, a picture of it is in Karen's (KakeM's) Smilebox in her blog about Road2CA. Karen said "Recognize these?" Is the maker a TQS member?

Can anyone tell me who won Best of Show at the R2C show? I got an email from somebody who said they won but they didn't sign it! When I go to the website, the info isn't current. I'd just like to know so I can really congratulate the winner.

I am a little bummed too. I was there all day on Thursday, met my sister there and completely forgot about meeting at Superior Threads' booth! We spent most of the time talking, we hadn't seen each other for awhile and so I didn't see many quilts. She spent three days there. My daughter wanted to go today (Sunday) so I figured I could see the quilts then. DD still came for a visit but she had changed her mind about going to Road. I couldn't very well go off to a quilt show when DD was here for a visit. Darn! Oh well, there's always next year! What I did see was beautiful. I hope others will post some photos because I really didn't see the big winners.

I was able to get John Flynn to sign the quilt he made for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative challenge in November, 2010. My bid was the winner for his "Heart of the Storm". Flynn was the Featured Artist at Road to California this year. I've spoken with him many times at Road before but this year, holding his quilt and getting him to sign it for me, I was starstruck! You'd think I was a teenager again, seeing the Beatles! There's my age, right out there!

By the way, take a look at the quilts for sale at http://www.alzquilts.org You can also see the quilts that will be auctioned the first ten days of February. I won't tell you the one I hope to get!

Well I'm bummed. I was supposed to get to go to RTC today but this morning the hubby got up and went to work like there was nothing planned. I'm pretty angry right now that he didn't even give it any thought. But I have already decided how I am going to deal with this situation. He's going to find out all the things that I'm going to forget to give any thought to over the next few months... =-(

Keith-bring at least one of those sweaters-it can be awfully cold sometimes inside the conv. ctr. Have a good trip. There's something about the train that's magic!

Mom said 'yes' to the BBQ!!! She's so much easier than Eddie - he would have put up a fight. =) And I did make it to the barber on Saturday. I packed Curvilinear Energy to work on in the hotel with Mom - but you know I'm too bashful to take it out of the room...

Aaugh!! It might be 73... I've already packed sweaters!

And I'm taking the train again. So much more relaxing than driving. The station is a few miles from my house and right down the street from the Ontario Convention Center. How fun is that?
