Very good advice! I was very careful and gentle when I handled the fabric, and I have used up all the fabric. I even had to piece the last star centre (pictures in page 2 of this thread). I'm going to use taffeta again, because it looks gorgeous.

If your using your Taffita as a whole cloth Tumpanto or background for applique , Serge the outer edges.
This kind of fabric is georgeous but frays easily.

Hi Lorchen, I guess I wasn't checking the Forum when you posted the photos, but it's absolutely gorgeous! And so creative! I'll bet the taffeta in the candle light is amazing. It is truly elegant! Thank you for sharing! Hugs, Robin

Lorchen, just read this post and had so much fun reading thru each entry- like a mystery to find out how you would use taffeta (a fabric I've never used). Your finished piece is so beautiful. I was determined that I already had my "projects lined up" to do and would NOT add any to the list, but after seeing this piece I'm thinking of adding "just one more and that's it".   thanks for sharing your experience with a new fabric.

Congratulations, It is beautiful and simple, and I bet with the taffeta being at lots of different angles to itself, it really shows the colour change in 'real life'

P.s. are you sure that it is not the outside edge for an umbrella?

Thanks everybody for the compliments. I made this 'Holy Mat' my machine, but it would make a great hand-sewing project. And I can now recommend mixing taffeta with quilting cotton. The candle light makes the taffeta really shimmer. I didn't realize I could do 'elegant'. :)
