TOPIC: CW challenge for anyone. Guide on 1st post

Re: CW challenge for anyone 03 Sep 2014 11:20 #121238

I am so sorry to be late! We've had lots of family here for a week and somehow the date slipped by me. I hope it's ok to show my Yesterday quilt.

I drafted the center block from Jinny Beyer's book of blocks. (I finally found and unpacked it!) The block is called "Memory". I used left overs from my 2009 TQS BOM on the sides. My little quilt reminds me how much I have gained being a member of TQS, most importantly, the friends I have made through all the yesterdays. And I look forward to all the tomorrows with you all.

Take care, Geneva

PS. I love all your little quilts! They are so different and special!

I like the potholder pocket Sue posted the link for… I am like Lorna needing to get motivated to make Christmas ornaments, mug rugs or pot holders for people I want little gifts for giving. Could that be worked into a Nov. 1 challenge?

Quilted bookmark, egg cosies, token holder, mobile phone pouch, drink mat to match the mugrug, coffee cup warmer, little fold top cosmetic bag, crotchet hook holder, credit card holder,.

I did book thongs they went down well, most used them as charms hanging on their reversing mirror, I should have said what they are  just said not to put them between their legs

Lorna, look at this post for potholders that was recently on Bonnie Hunter's blog. It might be something you're interested in. http://quiltexpressions.wordpress.com/2013/11/26/gift-inspiration-day-ten-folded-pot-holder/ I have several on my Christmas list that's going to get these little jewels.

off topic...

Last year I made mugs rugs for the 28 people that work for me. Year before I made FSL Christmas ornaments. I need a quick idea for this year. I figure September is a better time to start than December, which is what I always do. There are a couple guys but mostly women. Most people give baked goods or candies so I don't want to go that route.

WOW!!!! :D :D :D :D You've all done wonderful things!!! I love every one I've seen so far. I'm buried in a work project and won't be able to surface enough to quilt until October, but y'all are giving me ideas! I hope I'll be able to participate in the next challenge. Susan, when I see you in January, I'm going to need a lesson! I have a Mac, so can't use KK, but I'm impressed with what you've done with the pentangles!

They're all beautiful! I stand in awe of your creativity and talent. Maybe someday I will work up my confidence to participate in a TQS project. Keep up the fantastic work ladies!

Wow! So many more wonderful quilts have appeared!

I love your kaleidoscope, Susan! I just started playing with KK3, too, after the show. It's a lot of fun!

Love your flowers, Wendy and Lois! They are both beautiful! And I love the sentiment in yours, Wendy.

And I love yours, Lorna! Much more artistic than mine! And all of your other projects are wonderful. You have been incredibly productive!

I hope I haven't missed anyone since I'm going by memory. If I missed you, I apologize, but every one I've seen is beautiful!

Pebble fabric is Timeless Treasures Fabric(I got lucky and that was on the binding--not always the case when you buy only a quarter of a yard).

The first butterfly I did was drawn out on white fabric and I used Pitt artist pens to color it. The black was just not saturated enough so I did it in black fabric and all those dots are appliquéd on. I didn't like the flatness of the dots so I used watercolor pencils and Inktense pencils to do some shading.

Each petal of the flower is a separate piece and I did some pencil work on them too but it is not easily seen. The leaves and stem also received the pencil treatment because I didn't have the color of fabric I wanted.

The background fabric was close to what I wanted but it took quilting around each stone to give it the look of dimension I was after. The yellow on the head and back of the butterfly were hand stitched.

Thanks for the distraction Wendy.

How beautiful your latest projects, Lorna, as well as your CW project. And baby quilts too? You really are prolific these days! Thanks for sharing. :D
