Rosemary - I agree that a small border of colour between the geese would look nice.

Rosemary - I love your quilt - Now, Can you please tell me where one buys those 'hot needles"? I have Paypal, so if they're only available in UK, I can order one!

I am also under the gun of the deadline for the SOS Book, but unfortunately, my Grandson's BD deadline has passed in the process, and he's just going to have to wait. But then, he's only 3, so he wouldn't mind so much. (Think I need to re-visit my priorities- but then, this exchange has been global and will influence the whole world! Right?)

So sorry my block was such a PITA, Annis!

I do like the addition of the lighter fabric!

Does this look any better? As I added more blocks to the quilt the dark squares started looking depressing so I decided to lighten it up a little. Also there wasn't enough contrast between the squares and some of the darker HST's. I've decided to give this quilt to my cousin who had a stroke and I want it to be as cheerful as possible. I also decided to keep the Golden Tickets so I'm doing some unsewing to replace them. Three of them were easy to find. I looked through 42 of my 48 bags of paper to find the block Margo's was in. Now I just need to find 8 fabrics to remake the blocks, then everything will be ready to assemble. If I get a productive weekend I should be finished with the piecing before the 1st. And as I was doing the setting triangles I ended up with enough to make a 2nd smaller quilt with 1 1/2" HST's. When I get a day with nothing else I want to do (I don't know when that will be) I will cut 2" squares from all of my fabrics and sew them together into triangles by sewing from corner to corner. These could be my leaders and enders as I'm working on other projects. And the Golden Tickets will be used for a label on the 2nd quilt. I still have the batik triangles and strips that I will use together in a quilt some day, probably not anytime soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing the book with everyone's quilts. It will be a treasure.

My BOM is the first big quilt I have made and I finally have a design wall so I look at it on there. However in the past when auditioning fabrics for borders etc I have always laid them on the floor taken a photo from above then viewed them on the computer. I have also found photographing in black and white helps sort the colour values as well.

That's a good point, Lois! I often take photos of projects on the design wall before they are finished, but more often I'll just use a reducing glass. I have both a reducing glass http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-90770-1.htm and a peep-hole http://www.amazon.com/National-Hardware-V805-200-Degree-Viewer/dp/B000OD2L00/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314360881&sr=8-1 and use them often! It helps to check color and value placement and sometimes helps me spot a block that is just turned the wrong way! Lots easier to correct before they are sewn together!

Rosemary, Your quilt is beautiful. Beyond that it captures your interest to look for just what is going on. I was so interested in just looking at all of it that I hadn't noticed the colors had been organized in the segments created by the x. Isn't it always the case that even though we've been working on a project for hours on end then see something in the design that you wish you had done differently when you look at it through a different medium. Makes me think that in addition to using a design wall we should take pictures of WIP' and download them to the computer to study them that way. The whole thing get concentrated into a smaller area and allows it to be seen in a different way. I might start doing that. I really like your work. Lois

Rosemary, the center vibrates, I love it. Since you mentioned it , I can also picture that crumb catcher and on both sides of the flying geese border.

Rosemary. in the second picture you see the colors in the center that concentrate around each side ot the X. That is very interesting and attractive. Jan

Rosemary, that looks amazing!

I have just scrolled back through all these pages to see the photos of everybody's quilts so far. They really are all amazing. Congratulations everybody. I think the book that Carol hopes to produce will be really interesting. It's a great incentive to get things done - nothing like a deadline to kick you into shape. Good luck everybody. :D
