I wanted to share a little part of an article that Ami Simms wrote about the trip to Houston and the quilts in the AAQI booth. There is a link below that you can read the entire article. We all were part of the making a huge impact for Alzheimer's.

Here's a little bit I promised.

I am humbled and honored and…..EXHAUSTED! International Quilt Festival was incredible! We sold 1,597 quilts and raised $75,000 for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative!

This represents the largest amount of money raised by the AAQI at one time ever. We beat last year by $13,000. Most importantly, this means more money for research. Our Scientific Advisory Board is considering three grant applications right now for funding.

Pictured below are my first two purchases in Houston from the Altzheimer's Booth. I couldn't resist "Please Adopt Me!" #11,511 by Marlene Woodfield of LaPorte, IN ($70) and one of Clara's beautiful horse quilts called "Remember When? #11725 ($100). I was very impressed with the quality of workmanship on all the beautiful little quilts at the booth and all of the love that went into each one. I'm glad I was able to donate to such a worthy cause and come home with 2 adorable quilts! Many thanks to all of you who contributed your time, talent, and materials to this wonderful project!

I purchased a quilt in Houston on Nov. 1 for $40, #10872 Tranquil Morning. This will be a Christmas gift for my DH in memory of his Uncle Houston who had Alzheimer's.

I purchased a quilt in Houston for $50. Sorry, I didn't get a picture since I gave it to my friend as a thank-you gift when she picked me up from the airport. But wanted to get it into our tally.

I got home from Houston last night and have had a great sleep and unpacked. I bought 2 AAQI quilts and will get pictures and post them in the next few days. The excitement at the booth was great and so many people were looking over and buying the beautiful little quilts. Can't wait to hear how much Ami and all the volunteers raised for this great cause. It was also so sad that many of our fellow quilters didnt get to travel to Houston. I am so glad to hear that you are all safe. Now we need to do what we can for those who have lost so much.

Would you believe????? In Clara's pictures two of my quilts showed up. In the first pictures, my Bluebird of Happiness is showing. and in the picture of Ami, my Red Flower is on the side wall. How cool is that? I can print out those pictures and have proof that I had quilts "Hang in Houston"!!!!!!!! Probably the only way I willl ever be able to say that. The binding is actually the backing brought over to the front, next time I will cross the corners over the other way around so they lay a bit neater when machining. Using one of the fancy stitches on my maching to sew the binding down means that slight wobbles don't show up and is quicker than slip stitching by hand the only hand stitching was using water soluble to baste the binding down, so even that comes out easy. I make the fast finish triangles separately and turn them through and even managed to get them sewn on whilst doing the binding. Makes for a lovely fast finish
