"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.
Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.
The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.
AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:
I love all of the applique blocks but my time is limited so I decided to do stack 'n whack blocks instead. I searched several times on line for a large print fabric with the colors I wanted, but settled for a fabric I already had. I plan to remake some of the shoo fly blocks to better match these colors.
And I finished piecing my granddaughter's t-shirt quilt and it now has a light gray border and is waiting for the minky fabric she wants for the back. There was so much t-shirt fabric left that my grandson is making at least 5 jump ropes and I've cut squares for a lap quilt and doll quilts for a great grandniece. The dozen quilts I planned to quilt in the past few months are still waiting.
I purchased some Grafix Cling Vinyl for another purpose and discovered it also works on the back of rulers for less slippage and is less expensive than what we usually use. I plan on putting it on all of my rulers that don't already have a non-slip finish. I don't like the non-slip rulers that don't slide easily.
Snowcat, I just love your quilt. I love your fabric. The green theme is awesome. Mine is completely hodgepodge scrappy and I will love it when it is done, and it has been a really fun to do. I haven't even laid out my blocks yet. I'm sure I'll love it, but I know I really love yours.
I have completed July's applique blocks - the nine patches are all done and I am considering making more for the outer border to enlarge the quilt for a king size bed
We will do an Topic for completed tops/quilts. Albums will be in a different part of the site. The Forum is such an easy way to post and get immediate feedback
