mostly applique...but infinitely usable. Had a local shop that sold them back in the day. Many collect them...
I only have a few from early yrs. They are an interesting group...google them and you can read of the history...

Marilyn, your quilt is looking great. I really like your fabric choices too. Terrie, we all struggle to choose the right fabrics for our quilts. Sometimes we are lucky, and sometimes not so lucky. If it's any consolation I have had at least 2 attempts at the trees and I still have to figure out what to put in the foreground of the house. But I do have my vines, flowers and leaves ready to go for the next border. The problem has been choosing the fabric for that border. Some days I spend my whole quilting time just trying different combinations to see what is pleasing to me.

I understand. I have a love/hate relationship with my 830. It is very particular about the thread it will sew with. I hate when the thread breaks somewhere I can't see or get to. Can take me 45 minutes to get it out. I love a lot of other things about it.

Now I'm curious. What are "old Piecemakers calendar patterns". Sounds interesting.

Judith...I have a Bernina 820...had a 440QE prior to that ..it was a good machine and I traded for
this one, but as many here know, after lots of venting...it was a bit of a lemon out of the box.
I had a bad dealer...no longer in business.. and now am 120 miles away and the dealer isn't always
too helpful. It has improved a little lately....when I have a problem it is a major issue..even if it is
a small thing !! It's a love/hate relationship ! When she sews, she is wonderful ! But one little kink!
and Phooey ! You're stuck ! I do have back-up machines..yes that's plural !

As for this quilty...Thank you...I love those old Piecemakers calendar patterns ! Lots of inspiration.

What kind of sewing machine is Big Bernie? I am guessing it is a Bernina.
I love my Bernina, but there are a few things about her that really frustrate me.

Marilyn, love what you did with your fabric selections and very beautiful center block. What really makes this stand out is that you chose the same fabric for the light colors in the nine-patch and the next border. It pulls everything together beautifully and adds light to the whole. Beautiful!

Yes I agree with your thoughts. Love your fabrics choices though, I've a soft spot for Kaffe fabrics and batiks.

Wendy, I'm not sure about the straight stitch throat plate - not even really sure about them, but in my mind, they would (maybe?) make a difference.Maybe just trying to justify buying a new Sewing machine in the (near) future...
I am using Kaffe and Batiks. I have done the windows twice, I've done the trees twice, ( and I'm leaving the trees FAT, because they really are carefully stitched.). I guess that's my variation very FAT trees. Done the door, but may change the window over it, or just re-do the whole thing. ran out of the little bit of 'the right' colour for around the door. Will be whimsical - I hope Haven't even begun the nine-patches, but have slowly been picking out colours.

When ever I see somebody's I like it, but still struggle with my own choices. That's the hard part for me. Oh, and mostly - finding the time. Yes, finding the time is the most difficult part

The straight stitch throat plate wouldn't make any difference would it Terrie? You still aim to be accurate. I used 1/4" seams. What colours are you using? Are you doing any variations?

I'm still working on my month #1, and I'm so impressed with you gals who are doing 1/2 size. My machine doesn't have a single needle throat plate (is that what it's called?), so, I think I'll stay away from 1/2 size..unless by hand.
