Marilyn is absolutely correct. Depends on the show. Many shows do not even have a miniature category. IQA says it cannot be any larger than 24" x 24", while our local quilt show insists on it not being any longer than 16" on any side. And, I've heard Rosemary say that theirs have to be no larger than 12" on a side.Everything has to be to scale. A photo of it should allow a viewer to think it it full size. I even make my binding smaller then the usual 1/4", but that is a personal preference. On our International Quilt Exchange, I think we are to just make a small quilt. Nothing states "to scale" so I don't think these have to be true miniatures.

I'm closing in on getting my 8 year old UFO top finished. It is still in progress, but I am finally stiitching around the appliqués, and hand sewing the smaller circles.

The description of "miniature quilt" varies from place to place and show to show. In my experience, the general rule has
been block units less 4 inches , a perimeter less than 96 inches and reflection of a full size quilt visually. Of course...there
are other kinds of small art and wall decor quilts. :S

Geneva,
Thankfully, I have EQ, so yes, I can make them whatever size I need. I guess I'm wondering if there is any guidelines so if I wanted to enter it as a miniature, it would qualify. This is probably something that each show, and judge, decides? I've never entered anything into judging, but thought I might execute this one with that as an intention for it.

I didn't play along with the Laura Nownes quilt so can't help you there. Sorry Wendy.... beautiful quilt Rosemary!

LuAnn, I'd have to check the pattern again, but can you just make each block half size? Is that small enough for you? I seem to remember that the blocks were even numbers, 4", 6", 8" etc.... Maybe I'm crazy....

This may sound odd, but, is there a 'rule' for the proportion of a miniature quilt. I get that it needs to be a replica of a larger one, but is there a magic % that it must be smaller than to be considered miniature?
When I made Terrie's mystery quilt, I had to adjust a few times because I was not precise. I loved that quilt, but it is no longer mine. I thought doing it in miniature would be something I'd enjoy and keep! So, I am trying to figure out what size each of those units need to be finished at. This time around, I'm using paper piecing!

I loved the colors and my stitching turned out so nice.
Any help you guys can give me to accomplish this would be appreciated!
Thanks,

Wendy, I made 6" and 1" blocks - here it is again to refresh your memories

But I don't remember you mentioning that you made your blocks smaller than the recommended 6" size.

Can anyone remember when we made the Laura Nownes quilt what size some of us made it. I know it should have been 6" blocks and Rosemary did teeny tiny but I can't remember if I made mine smaller perhaps 4 1/2". I gave min to a twin last year and just getting round to making one for the other :)

Geneva, I always get logged out automatically.

I know that some of the problems are of my own making. For example, I used to take pictures with a digital camera, the download to me PC and post here. Now I take pictures with my phone and can share directly from the phone. Haven't found a way yet to do that here. I may eventually work it out.

TQS is not the only tech thing where I want to scream: 'If it ain't broken, don't mess with it!' but if you do, and it it then broken, you need to sort it.

Rosemary....it seems that there are very many old threads that are closed with Access Denied.
I wonder if that occurred with "space saving" efforts with the last site change....it caused a lot of those troubles !!.
I think Wendy's thread is in a better spot...to my way if thinking. We need to pick one and use it ! There are 3 place
to watch now...that's plenty !! Funny that the 2 Wendys opened a thread at the same time, nearly !
