That's fun Heather. Did you design it
My aunt and I did, yes. They saved fabric from their mom's clothing when she passed, and my aunt wanted something made with meaning. She suggested a tree, but also wanted a bed runner, nothing large. So I hopped on EQ7 and searched trees, found that one, and we designed it so that each tree has one fabric for the leaves, with the mom tree having leaves from each sibling tree (there are 6 kids). The mom tree has the red trunk, as that was her favorite color, and each kid tree has a red leaf (placed in the spot of their birth order as I was appliqueing the leaves). I quilted the trees with red for the same reason.
It is simple fusible applique, then the quilting stitches further hold it down. Center leaf vein in each leaf (and outline), and a heart etched into the tree trunk along with wood grain around it on all the tree trunks. Leaf vine in the border, with hearts on the corners. Stippling/meander in the background. It was a lot of fun, and my aunt fused the fusible to the fabric, then cut out all the leaves for me, thank goodness!
I love making things with meaning, and she'd seen that from my facebook posts, so specifically asked me to do this rather than her sister, who has done a few simple patchworks for the other sisters with their saved fabric. This aunt, and my mom, both wanted something a little more than that, so I'm happy to help with it. My mom is coming next week and we'll do hers -- she wants a bookshelf quilt, with the book spines being the clothing fabric. It's all planned, the fabric all sorted, and we'll work on it together, so it should go smoothly.
