Anne and Dawn, I have done six Hoffman Challenges and won 2nd place mixed technique in 2011. I didn't enter the past several years because I didn't like the fabric. I am going to try to get one made for this year and have a concept design. I think I better get going on this. LOL....look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Bought a new storage box for my quilting cottons on Friday. And after tidying things up and finding all sorts of bags with fq's in it is pretty much full already  Added to which, I went shopping today for some specials for all the seaside rows, which I have planned in my mind. Hoping to do some cutting tomorrow and possibly even some sewing!!! :woohoo:

Entering your quilts in shows, whatever size or location, is scary. Some of my quilts have won at big shows and then have not been accepted at other shows. Who knows? But putting your work, soul and feelings out there is good. It stretches me...

Well, I have finished the bed runner. This will go on the light to grey blues duvet cover I made. When it's all done and on the bed I'll post a picture of the whole thing. I still need to make some pillow cases for decoration. Sorry it's crooked on the wall! It's 29" x 72".

The fun part about this is that I found this bundle of 12 fat quarters in my stash. I have no idea where it came from! I think I may have won it, but I'm not sure. A few months ago I thought about giving it away as "those aren't my colors." But didn't. When I thought of the blue duvet cover and needed a gold/brown/red/blue etc piece to tie in the pictures and chairs in our room, I knew this bundle was perfect. I have very little left over fabric. I barely had enough to make the blocks. I did buy the setting fabric and used it on the back. I'm close to being done with this bedroom project. Yay!

A beautiful sunny day here in Eastern WA. Take care everyone!

Good luck with your challenge quilt, Dawn. Like you, any ribbons I've won have been at my guilds and in a small local show. I did like getting the feedback from the judges.

Anne, I usually only enter my quilts in the local fair, and our guild's big show in September. I have also had a quilt accepted in a Macuso show, and a large show in Washington state. (Can't remember the name of it now.) I win a lot of ribbons, but consider myself a big fish in a small pond. Or, I usually joking say I have my guild fooled into thinking I'm a great quilter. My ribbons from our local show are from the viewers, and not judged. The Fair ones are judged. I love to quilt, but am struggling right now with my challenge quilt! It's just not playing nice!

WOW!! I just looked at your quilt!! I can't wait to see what you come up with for this years fabric!! OK, this year, I have to get the situation taken care of with my father in law, & finish my nephews quilt, but next year...
Do you do other quilt contest/challenges? Something that I would really like to try, but up till now never really had the time for in the past

Anne, last year was the first year that I entered the Hoffman Challenge. And it was a very difficult fabric to work with. But, I managed to win a second place in Mixed Technique. The name of the quilt is Masquerade, and it is a jester. I was surprised this morning when I opened up an email from a friend, and there was my quilt! She was messing around on Intsagram when she found it. It was part of the advertising for the upcoming Mid Atlantic Quiltfest. She has two quilts in that show, so was looking for things pertaining to It.

This year's deadline is the end of June, so you still have time to make a quilt for it, if the fabric challenges you to do so. And, if you don't have another large project with the same deadline. You will find some of the big name quilters entering the challenge, along with unknowns like me. So, it's good to do your best work when entering. I think this year's butterflies lends itself to so many possibilities! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I'm definitely seeing a few Kaleidoscope entries!

Rosemary, I really like your carpet. The color is very rich! I think I only have a bit of your stained glass in a picture from when we did the sorting of the reels.

Dawn, Can't wait to see your finished challenge.

Lady....I am not revealing what I am making quite yet, as others are also making a Hoffman Challenge quilt, and I don't want to spoil the surprise, until they are well under way. Once I get the main body of the circles done though, I will probably be so excited about it, I will share! Anyway, that is exactly what I am using....Alex's Print and Piece. But last year, I used Ricky's Stable Stuff, and even removing most of it, it became quite wrinkled once the Hoffman staff folded it. (It had not been washed.) My jester had a crease right down the middle of her face, making her look kind of distorted. So, I'm just taking added precautions this year. It is good to know that the small amount of stabilizer that I have left in this one will become soft upon washing. But, that's the kicker! A lot of us who enter contests seem to work on the quilt up to the last minute, and don't have time to wash it before mailing it. You'd be surprised how many quilt pictures have been submitted to shows with the binding glued onto backside. The hand quilting gets done after the last minute submission

Anne - really like your jacket and your Jenny Beyer Lotus quilt looks fabulous! (Great idea to work on projects while at the hospital).
Rosemary - the lounge looks great, I'd love to see the stained glass windows too!
Dawn - love the circles too.

Barb :-)
