Dawn, I love the way the paints glide onto the silk. I use fairly small brushes I got from Dick Blick. The sticker on one says the SKU # is 09020 1004 for one and #09020-1008 fir the wider one. If you are going to try this, get a good brush washer (available at Dick Blick), a roll of paper towels, and a big package of q tips. A q tip dipped in water and slightly rung out with your fingertips acts as a reasonable eraser of the paint if you make a mistake. But only if you do it within a minute or two after the mistake. The opaques are all that will show up on the black silk. You can use the transparents on light colors though and they work great. The ink pens I used were Pitts India ink markers. They are great. I wrote to them because it claims "not for fabrics", but they said they just haven't tested them and they did know that it doesn't stay permanently on SOME fabrics. But they did not know about heat setting (asked me how I did it...I steam iron it with a fine cotton pressing cloth over the silk). And I have tested it on cotton. The inks are permanent on cotton when heat set, at least through several washings so far. Canterbury Silk is also done the same way on the border. The central theme is all applique and embroidery.

BJ, I found my notes, and all they said was polished pigma, and then I was referred to sewfarsogood.org. That is Sherry Roberts-Harrison's site. Her quilts are awesome! (Her site is outdated.)

Anyway, thank you for the list of paints that you used, and some of your process. I have never sewn nor worked with silk, but the paint process intrigues me. The circles on Kimmy Brunner's batik almost look like appliqué! Pretty cool! Looks like something I want to try!

Actually, BJ, I spelled her name wrong. It is Kimmy Brunner. And, yes, you can see her "painted" quilt on her site, in her gallery. (Just search Kimmy Brunner Quilter.) It is the last quilt, on the last page (page 3). I also found out she made the raffle quilt for IQA this year. I think she wrote about it on her site, and shared some of her progress. No painting on it, though.

Thanks everyone. Yes, Dawn, their are several painting methods used here. The border is painted with a combination of Setacolor metallics and Jacquard metallics (in layers of about four colors each leaf, flower, or swirl), and finished with Setacolor glitter (all fabric paints), except for the little music boy, the birds, and the two big multi-colored flowers. I inked those on white prepared for dye silk and appliqued them on. The horse and knight's face are digitally painted and printed on silk. All the rest is appliques and free motion quilting. I quilted the border before I painted it. Does Kimmie Bruner have hers pictured somewhere?

Congratulations, again BJ! Another Quilt Of The Day! Very cool. I haven't zoomed in on it yet, but are those painted areas I see, or appliqué? The quilted area looks similar to some of the work Kimmie Bruner (I think that's her name) showed us at last Guild meeting. Hers were paint. I'd have to refer to my notes, to find out what paints she used, but it sure the same! Anyway, very nicely done!
