Congratulations to three TQS members, geoquilterfeatheredstar, and mkdquilts, who have made it to the final round in the McCall's Quilt Design Star contest.  They were asked to create a complete quilt from start to finish based on their original design entries into the contest.  They were given approximately 4 weeks to do this (over the Christmas holidays).

Each challenge round is judged by a panel as well as you, the quilting public. You'll have a tough time deciding as there are some really spectacular quilts in the final round. Voting has begun for this round and is wrapping up at 1am on February 3rd, 2011. You can vote daily until then. Click here to vote for your favorite.

They are followed by Ambrosia by qeoquilter.  Click here to go to her blog.

At the 2009 Houston International Quilt Festival an exhibition was held by the Russian Quilters Association. Here now is the second of three videos featuring an amazing array of talent from all over Russia.

HURRY, HURRY, HURRY...DON'T MISS THE FUN!  The deadline to join the SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING TRIANGLES EXCHANGE is TODAY, Wednesday, January 26, at midnight Central Standard Time.  At this point we have 502 (these last two were men) participants from nine countries and we're still counting and we're probably looking at well over 40,000+ HST's to sort and return.

If you want to join, there's no official 'sign-up' form, just follow the link to the Sisterhood forum and post a reply that you're 'in'. Be sure to include your city/state/country so we can have an idea of just how widespread this has become.  And, you can also include your first name if you'd like.

The Guidelines can be found on the very 1st Forum Post and Page 1.

You can easily find the Sisterhood of the Traveling Triangles topic by clicking on "View New Posts" at the top right of the forum page.

And don't forget, you can win Edtya's book, click here for more info.

A 650-pound grand piano mysteriously appeared on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay, Florida.  First it was a mine shaft, now it's a sandbar.  Ricky, what have you been up to?

Stitch and then store your pins and needles in this handy, weighted pincushion/ organizer from Sew, Mama, Sew! The hanging, divided pocket provides a home for those easily misplaced notions, and the detachable scrap bag helps keep stray clippings and threads from littering your workspace.

Completed UFO-Sangria Diamonds by TQSWizard

"Trimming down" seems to be on cateveryone's mind at this time of year, and that includes those of us quilters who are faced with a looming stack of UFOs built up over the past year. Why not let TQS help you plan a strategy for "battling the bulge?"  We've collected several painless ideas for trimming your UFO "collection" down to a more manageable size.

  • Collect 12 UFO's and assign each one a number (1-12).  Write down the numbers on individual pieces of paper.  Place papers in a small bag.  On the first day of each month, pull out one number.  This will be the quilt you will complete during the month.
  • Use a UFO as a quilting practice piece.  Then donate the quilt to a guild, charity, or other organization that needs quilts.
  • Trade UFOs with your friends.  Working on someone elses quilt is often more fun.
  • Quilt by check.  Have a professional quilter complete the quilting for you.
  • Give yourself a deadline.  Enter the quilt in a show.  The deadline will keep your work on track.
  • Donate your quilt to a local quilt shop for practice quilting by students.

Share your ideas by leaving a comment for others.

Design is universal.  We have enjoyed the local art and had the chance to visit quilt guilds and Spinners and Weavers.

I got the chance to feed a Black Rhino and feel it's face.  It became gentle when it lost it's sight, but hurry and take the picture because you need to pay attention!

It's all about practice, practice practice! This little speed skater was tearing up the skating rink at Lotte World in Seoul, South Korea.

3466_iphoto3.jpgOften at quilt shows, you run into quilting celebrities. Recently at Road to California, TQS ran into Gregory Case and Elena Morera, our illustrious Quilt Show photographers and owners of Gregory Case Photography.

This happy couple recently graced the pages of Quilter's Home Magazine Feb/Mar 2011 in an article entitled "Q-Love: 4 Quilty Couples & Their Material Attraction."

What quilting celebrities have you run into?
