Grab a cup of coffee or tea and revisit a wonderful video from 2009.

Full-Spectrum, Natural Fibers, Quilts & the Textile Arts ran from September 10 through December 5, 2009 at the Binghamton University Art Museum.  It featured three stunning Textile exhibits.

Learn about the development and exploration of natural fibers in the The Evolution of Natural Fibers.  Vibrations: Color Resonance in Antique Quilts, 1860-1940 features quilts from the Pilgrim/Roy collection. While the Contemporary Quilt Show features the works of the quilting world's pioneers and leaders such as Ricky Tims, Alex Anderson, Paula Nadelstern, Joen Wolfram, Diane Gaudynski, and many, many more.

The video includes audio commentary by Marilyn Henrion, Sharyn Craig, Marilyn Bedford, and Judy Dales. A special thank you to Jack Braunstein for sharing this exhibit.  For more information visit www.artmuseum.binghamton.edu.

The video can be seen in full screen by clicking the monitor button on the bottom right of the video frame (next to the sound button).  You will have a visual and audio sampling of the some of the quilts.

It's the middle of February, have you stuck with your New Year's Resolutions?

3510_iphoto3.jpg

If the answer is "No" maybe you need to reconsider what you promised to do. The most obvious resolution is to lose weight and get into shape. Instead of saying, I will lose 2 lbs. a week, how about saying; I will take a 30 minute walk, 3 times a week. This is a very mangeable goal and one in which you have complete control.

To apply that principal to the quilt world, cut your tasks into smaller pieces, how about instead of I will finish all my UFOs this year; decide to attach the binding to my BOM; or to, donate 3 quilt tops to my local guild; or how about, I will complete one quilt by St. Patrick's day.

Taking things a little bit at a time will get the job done and inspire you to do more.

Submit a comment and let us know what you've resolved to do this year and how you are managing your goals.

Here's the latest from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Triangles - if you are involved in the exchange, please read carefully as it contains helpful hints for making the exchange successful.  Thanks.

Here's a few reminders for those who are still sewing, and for those who are ready to mail your packages.

1) Before starting to sew your HSTs, please review the Guidelines for making your HSTs on Page 1, Post #4, of the Chapter 2 - Sisterhood of the Traveling Triangles and rewatch Edyta's Show #802.

2) Please DO NOT OPEN your HSTs. Leave them folded with the paper on and pack them carefully. If you leave the triangles closed with the paper on, it protects them in transport, and keeps them from falling apart or becoming distorted because of the bias edges.  They must also be the correct value: one light and one med/dark fabric in each HST.

3) HSTs need to be sent in increments of 28, (28, 56, 112, 140, 168, etc.) except for those being included for Queensland or Norway.

4) Instructions for mailing your packages may be found on Page 1, Post #1 and 2, of the Chapter 2 ForumEnvelopes are working fine for up to 700 HSTs and are much preferred to bulky boxes.

5) Remember to include your screen name and the number of HSTs on the OUTSIDE of your mailing envelope and on the INSIDE too. This HST count should not include any extras for Queensland, Hanne, etc.  It should only be the number that will be returned to you.

6) If you're sending extra HSTs for Queensland or Hanne, make sure they are clearly marked in separate baggies.

7) Send Debbie an email to let her know you've mailed your package so she can reply to let you know she received it.

His wet nose and slurpy kisses are sure to bring a smile. Trot on over to our Projects page here to find this adorable pattern...and while you're stitching, why not make a second quilt to donate to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative?

When it comes to printing quilt patterns, usually you just need to "click and print." Sometimes, however, as is the case with our BOM, you may need to make a few adjustments to be sure that your printed paper-piecing patterns are sized accurately. Join us as we give you a quick tutorial for ensuring that your printed pattern is the correct size.  It takes just a minute!

In November, we introduced you to co-authors Debbie Johnson and Kim Suleman (writing as Betty and Florrie), who charmed everyone at the International Quilt Quilt Festival in Houston with their warm personalities and their unique dress, typical of the clothing worn by middle-class women from a colliery village in the North East of England during the early 1900s. Debbie and Kim's book, Colliery Days: A Fabric Project Book, includes beautiful photos that were shot in miners' cottages, and features old patterns inspired by the Beamish Open-Air Museum interpreted in updated designs.

The museum, located in Durham County, near Durham City and Newcastle-on-Tyne, was rebuilt and set in 1913, and is a living, working museum dedicated to sharing the history of North East England by allowing visitors to step back into another era. (Think Williamsburg, VA.)  Learn more about Debbie and Kim on our Articles page.

Update!! The Beamish has graciously sent us a terrific selection of photos, so that you too can step back into a time when the pace of life wasn't quite so hectic. Enjoy the visit!
