I NEVER read instructions - you know someone like me...the bike is built and three screws are left over - who cares, right? Well, I just read how to sew the triangles and UH OH! Does it really matter if the light fabric is on top - I mean REALLY????

I have created a personal photo album with pictures I took in Africa. This album lives on my new Flash Player photo gallery at www.rickytims.com and contains almost 100 photos from the recent trip to Kenya. Just click here and have fun browsing around. Use the tools at the bottom to navigate forward, back, or play a slideshow. Roll over a photo for more info. Even try full screen mode.
If, when you get there, you can't access the flash player, then click on View Descriptions or iPad/iPhone Users and you'll be good to go.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt has been displayed in its entirety only five times -- in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1992 and 1996. Each display was on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The quilt was founded in 1987 and is a memorial to those who have died from AIDS and is used as a tool in the prevention of HIV. Each section is twelve feet square and is typically made up of eight individual 3' x 6' panels sewn together. Each panel memorializes the life of someone lost to AIDS. There are currently more than 44,000 panels. To learn more, click here.

Our wonderful friends at AccuQuilt have graciously allowed us to use some of their photos taken at the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2011. This contest attracts quilters you may not see at other shows and their quilts are quite spectacular. Enjoy just a brief glimpse of these showcase quilts.
Make no mistake - this gal works best under a deadline - WHEW, signed, sealed and ready to be delivered....Are you a deadline type of person or the queen (or king) of UFO's?
The deadline for the Alliance for American Quilts Contest is fast approaching. The deadline is March 7, 2011. Their theme is“Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion,” a broad theme that celebrates cooperative relationships that work towards a common goal. There are great prizes to win including a Handi Quilter machine quilting system and gift baskets from AccuQuilt, C&T Publishing, and our very own The Quilt Show.com.
Entries must be 16" x 16" and comply with the theme of the contest. They are considered a donation to the Alliance. They must have a sleeve and a label. This year, along with a written artist's statement, they are doing an audio recording as well. For more information, click here.
And, as a special enticement; the quilts will be exhibited at national venues including a debut exhibition at the American Quilter's Society's 27th annual show in Paducah, Kentucky, April 27-30, 2011.
Last year a number of members from TQS won prizes, this year it could be you!
You can help The National Quilt Museum with your donations of quilts, quilt-related books and tools, fabric and other artwork for their 2011 Silent and Live Auctions. The National Quilt Museum's Annual Benefit Auctions will be held during the April 2011 American Quilter's Society Quilt Show & Contest in Paducah.
Individuals, guilds and businesses across the U.S. help raise funds vital to upholding the quality exhibits and events held at the Museum year-round. For more information, click here or contact Susan Edwards, at (270) 442-8856; sedwards@quiltmuseum.org for instructions on how to donate your items.
And if you are going to the show, you can also help by bidding on some of the fabulous quilts and other items donated from all over the world.
While on their African tour, Alex and Ricky spent some time with the Kenya Quilt Guild. The members welcomed the Safari group and surrounded them in quilts by the Guild. (Names and artists were not displayed). Enjoy the diverse creativity of these African quilters.
TQS News Flash: WE HAVE GREAT NEWS!!!! Due to MANY circumstances out of our control (like the moving of the P&B Warehouse to the east coast and the horrific weather the U.S. has endured) the Beloved Beauties BOM fabric is FINALLY - LITERALLY - FOR SURE - on the road from the east coast to Denver where it will be cut and kitted!
The fabric should be there early next week and then it will take about 5 days to kit and take its last journey to La Veta, CO - to be shipped to you!!!! Hang in there and THANK YOU for your patience - the fabric is gorgeous and worth the wait.
