If you like quilts or cats, you'll love this little book, A Black and White Tale. Ann Fahl and Jacquie Scuitto first started to work on this project in 2006. Ann already had quite a few quilts about her cat Oreo and she needed a story line to pull them all together. Jacquie Scuitto the quilt muse, was just the person for the job.
Five years later Ann became a publisher and the book a reality. The story follows Oreo through her daily routine; breakfast, her morning bath, taking a walk in the garden, and guess where she gets a drink of water? This full color book shows each of 34 quilts in beautiful detail, down to the beads. At the end of the book there are descriptions and back stories of each quilt. This is an entertaining book, small is size, yet packed full of 10 years of quilt making. It is a perfect gift for yourself or another quilter.
You may remember Ann's appearance on Episode 111 – The Purrfect Quilt. She brought many of these quilts with her but left Oreo the cat at home. Each one of the quilts can also be seen in the cat gallery on her website, where the book can be purchased. You can also find Ann's blog by clicking here.

Although I am not known for my culinary skills (however I do get by) - I find my creative voice in setting the table - not slaving over the stove! The roses are from my garden, the bobeches with prisms were my grandma's and the eggs were made several years ago after being inspired by a Martha Stewart magazine (please take note that included hand blowing 8 dozen). This year we have lots of friends coming over from various aspects of our lives....even a TQS member (I can't tell you who to protect her identity) Are you cooking today and where is your strength when it comes to holiday gatherings?
Herbert Hoover's quote "prosperity is just around the corner," inspired this wonderful humorous quilt created by Fannie B. Shaw between 1930-1932. It is 72" x 86" and is hand appliqued, pieced, and quilted.
In her Prosperity Quilt, she has her applique figures depicting women, businessmen, baseball players, a farmer, a cowboy, and more peeking around the corner expectantly. Mrs. Shaw even included herself in her hallmark apron. She used a variation of the attic windows pattern and quilted footprints in the sashing to show movement and the search for jobs. This quilt sent a powerful message that spoke for the whole nation.
