Captain John selected two songs as his favorites.  The first is Mary Did You Know?  As it turns out, this is one of Justin's favorites as well, coming in a close second to Ricky's Christmas in a Small Town.  We guess great musical minds think alike.

Here's what John has to say about Mary Did You Know?

"I love many versions of this song.  However, since Mark Lowry wrote the words and has a wonderful voice, this is one of my favorites.  I'm trying to learn piano and the pianist, the late Anthony Burger, is absolutely amazing.  Be sure to listen all the way through as the passages with the backing singers are very powerful.  Enjoy."

Come back tomorrow to discover John's second favorite holiday song, you might be surprised.

Once again we at TQS have had an incredible year of learning and creativity.  We are constantly astounded by the terrifically talented individuals that share their work with us and YOU.  To test how well you have been paying attention, we have a little quiz to see if you can recognize the work of each artist based on their quilting work.  We promise that it's not as easy as it looks.

Once you have finished playing the game, click on the link below to see how many answers you got correct.

The Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase is coming soon.  "The Best in the West" will be held at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, CA from January 19-22, 2012.  Show Hours are Thursday-Saturday 9:30 am - 6 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 3:30 pm.  Ticket prices are $10 per day or $25 for a multi-day pass which includes the Preview Event.  Children 12 and under are free.

This year, All That Jazz, Improvisational Quilts, will be curated by Ricky and will be exhibited at Road.  Here is a description of the exhibit.

A collection of improvised quilts where pre-planned designs are set aside in order that whim and spontaneity may prevail. What is an improvisational quilt? Any quilt that is started without a predetermined pattern or plan and evolves throughout the construction process. Each quilt in this exhibition should have emerged from the seed of an idea without fully knowing what the finished piece would look like.

Have In our 900 series finale, beloved quilter, teacher, author/publisher (of over 100 books!), longtime PBS television personality, and 2011 TQS Quilting Legend-the irrepressible Quilt-in-a-Day Lady, Eleanor Burns-opens her wonderful log home and spacious studio to Alex, Ricky, and the TQS gang.

After Eleanor shares her quilting history and generous sampling of quilts, we peek in on students at work on a quick-and-easy quilt using Eleanor's Fabric Frenzy pattern.  Along the way, Eleanor demonstrates her technique for sewing partial seams, and takes Alex and Ricky on a horse-drawn carriage ride through the quaint town of Julian, CA, where they sample a slice of the famous local apple pie.  All in all, a "delicious" experience you won't want to miss!
