While Ami Simms does amazing work with the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, (Keep your eyes open on FaceBook for the instant they receive their 10,000th donated Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt. They are less than 75 quilts from that milestone. SEE BELOW. They've also just funded another research study!) she occasionally decides to have a little fun.  Right now that fun includes dyeing underpants.

Here's what Ami has to say about this particular enterprise, "This all began several many ago when I first began hand dying fabric. I couldn't see wasting even a single drop, so I quickly looked around for some small item to throw in there with the fabric. Underpants. Steve asked me to quit dying his, but I continued to dye my own every time the weather warmed up and I took the dye buckets outside. It was a great way to emotionally cast off the gray skies and cold temperatures of winter and celebrate spring. And color. Lots of color.

Several years ago I mentioned this in my blog and created the Yo-Yo Sisterhood of the Traveling Panties so others could celebrate spring with me."

There are a few rules, you'll want to visit Ami's website to see how you can join the Sisterhood.

UPDATE: AAQI Receives
10,000th Donated Quilt - Quilt #10,000 was made by Kristin Shields from Bend, Oregon. "Shhhh..." is an original design inspired by a class taught by Jude Hill. The 8.5" x 8.5" quilt is made of linen, cotton, and silk fabric, some of which are hand-dyed.

Monkey Quilt by LisaMarieE

With over 150 quilts submitted for our TQS Baby Quilt Contest, Capt. John and Alex were overwhelmed with the variety and creative ideas shared by our talented TQS members. The choices were too much for these newbie grandparents to handled, so they thought it would be fun to let the new parents, Joey and Shelly, make the selections.

Well...little did Alex and John foresee the firestorm of frantic phone calls that would ensue. "Mom, you have NO idea how exhausted Shelly and I are, what with Lev keeping the two of us awake at all hours. We are just exhausted. You've forgotten what it's like."

So, we ask your forgiveness for not having the winners ready to announce as promised. Seems we need to give the new parents a few more days to decide which of these uber-cute quilts will win. We know you'll understand.

In the meantime, if you haven't yet viewed the entries, check out the adorable quilts in Show and Tell.  4696_see_the_quilts_0.png

Are you and a small group of your friends looking for inspiration, as well as a place to get away for a few days of quilting? Let Terrie Hancock Mangat (Show 708) show you how color, pattern, and texture can be "done" in a small, circa 1880s house set on a hill in the town of Taos, NM.

A visit to this stunning little gem is a feast for the eyes and--as it's available to rent--easy on the checkbook. Join us as we share one woman's creative touch on a charming house that any quilter would love.

A batik and triangle beauty by TQS member ajclapp

Word has it that the completed quilt submissions for the TQS Half-square Triangle Exchange book and DVD are starting to arrive. Organizer and TQS member, CMOELLERS, says that--at last count--she has received 145 beautiful works, and that the chronicle of this project (and its results) is destined to become a treasured keepsake. If you're still working to complete your entry, you still have time to make the May 1, 2012 deadline. CMOELLERS hopes to have the books and DVDs available for purchase at this fall's International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX.
