This week's puzzle is Jan Krentz' Safari.  This is a wonderful Lone Star quilt featuring large pre-printed African pillow panels and coordinating animal fur prints.  It was created in 2000 and measures 64" x 64." If you'd like to make a similar quilt, you'll find the pattern in Jan's book, Lone Star Quilts & Beyond published by C&T Publishing.

If you'd like to see Jan in action, watch Episode Episode 1103: The Skinny on Stripes.

Quilters have amazing hearts. I personally have witnessed several occasions of outpouring compassion, from hearts that I received while going through a tragedy of my own, blocks coming together for quilt for one of our own members that truly needed some strength and love during a trying time, and to a patriotic example of pride for a few soldiers. Now that this challenge has started quilters have come together again to amaze and make me proud to witness the passion first hand.

We are at the halfway point of this challenge or are we? Who knows where this may lead. Several months have passed and we have some beautiful examples of these quilter’s hearts and I would love to share them with you. So, far we have 63 made and 15 bought quilts for AAQI (The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative). We would love to have you on board. For now, enjoy the quilt show. I couldn’t resist.

When you are done watching come and join us on the forum, and add a little quilt to the collection. All the details are there.

Imagine if everyone that was apart of our TQS family made or bought one little quilt. I say, bring it on! See you on the forum.

The Alliance For American Quilts is now "Quilt Alliance."

Here's what they have to say about the change.

A new logo was unveiled this week which depicts a colorful ring of quilts or patches punctuated by a threaded needle to finish the letter Q. The logo is vivid and flexible, a fitting symbol for a nimble and creative organization. A quick visit to the website will show how the new logo has already been graphically adapted to showcase specific events and programs, like the Alliance's Quilters Take Manhattan fall fundraiser.

Our basic mission to document, preserve and share the stories of quilts and quilters will not change. Our branding change is about inclusion, not dilution, and we won't be any less interested in American quilts and quilters. We've been interviewing some quilters in other countries for our oral history project, Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories, for years, and international quilt documentation projects have been added to The Quilt Index recently. We're starting to work with more quilt organizations abroad, and added our first foreign board member last year.

The phenomenal American quilt renaissance that began in the 1970s, has lately gone global. Both the craft of making quilts and the study of historic quilts are booming worldwide, flourishing everywhere from Europe to Asia. The Alliance wants to follow this vibrant trail of quilts wherever it leads.

Read their press release about the rebranding here.

Please note that both URL's--www.AllianceforAmericanQuilts.org and www.QuiltAlliance.org--will take you to their website. They'll keep the former URL operational for at least another year.

So far all we forgot were the poles to hang the quilts.  You did want to see quilts, right?  So Justin ran out to IKEA and found something that should work.  Brad Wallace runs our boom camera and welcomes you to the taping.
