Meet Bob Purcell's (Dr. Bob of Superior Threads) son, Todd. Todd recently made his first quilt and filmed the story behind it. It isn't quite an ordinary quilt.

Susan Beck and Kay Hickman have a fun new Bernina Instructional Video this week. Learn how to use the Needle Punch Tool with different types of fibers for a "felted" effect in your quilts. There are some many possiblities to play with, this tool could be habit forming.

We recently taped with quilt artist Grace Errea (amazingquiltsbygrace.com-take a look through her gallery) for an upcoming show. I loved her use of color and enjoyed her landscapes, people and nature quilts and wanted to buy one- but which one?
She has several Eagle quilts that spoke to me. I have a mild case of ADD and lose focus quickly (squirrel!) and I loved the steely eyed determination in the look of the eagles.
We are half way through our redesign of the entire TQS site, but there is a lot of work left. Now when I start to wander, I look at this quilt and the Eagle is saying, "Focus!". (At first I thought it was saying "Don't touch my Bernina!") Great job Grace.
We are all pretty well obsessed with quilting and the sewing arts. Here's a fun gal that Alex ran into at Quilting in the Garden. We'd say she wears her heart on her sleeve, or would that be her machine on her arm? What do you do to show your love for the craft?
Hey fans of Ricky's Kool Kaleidoscope quilt method. A member remembered that Ricky did a short video to show how to handle your strata cutting if you come up short during the process. It seems the video went missing from our site, but we found it and here it is for our member and anyone else that needs this excellent tip.
If you have never made one of Ricky's Kool Kaleidoscope quilts you can learn all about it on TQS episode 403. Remember if you don't have Series 4, you can always purchase older series to put them into your TQS show library or use gift certificates you haven't redeemed yet.
In addition, Ricky's Kool Kaleidoscope book and DVD are available at the Ricky Tims Online Store.
Have you ever wanted something other than a plain white sewing machine? Maybe something to match the decor in your sewing room?
Watch Clare Rowley of creative feet.com paint a sewing machine start to finish in just over 4 minutes.
You can learn how to paint your own sewing machine using Clare's video - How to Paint Your Sewing Machine Instructional DVD available from www.creativefeet.com.
Clare began painting sewing machines as a response to a large company trying to hurt her company back in 1989. An article was written back then about it called "Never Cross A Creative Woman" and she's continued to paint sewing machines as her calling card ever since. In all Clare has painted over 25 sewing machines, several on her How to Paint Your Sewing Machine Instructional DVD. She's included shots of each machine for everyone's viewing pleasure including her first machine.
Clare makes sure you're aware of all that you could do to damage the machine and helps you to avoid these situations. She finds it fun and especially satisfying to take an old 'long since fallen out of warranty" machine and making it shiny and new. The only problem she's ever had with painting causing issues with sewing was by adhering rhinestones on the bed of the machine where the fabric slides underneath the foot.
So, get out your paints and crank up your creativity; ff you are looking to have fun and paint an amazing work of art on your sewing machine than this is for you!
Tulip by Barb Persing was created from white cotton fabric, hand painted with ink, and free-motion quilted. It measures 44" x 62" and is based on an original photograph. To see more of Barb's work, visit her website, www.barbarapersing.com.
This year's winner of the Pacific International Quilt Festival - Yuko Watanabe Best of Show is Karlyn Bue Lohrenz and her quilt, The Hues of Amber. Karlyn used Caryl Bryer Fallert's gradation fabrics to explore amber from deep burgundy/brown to butterscotch. The fabrics helped to showcase the shades she envisioned with depth and value. In her studio, Karlyn said the design seemed to 'spin' on her wall. You can learn more about Karlyn in her TQS Member Spotlight.
