3167_cathatbatcover.jpgWe had so much fun doing this before, we are going to do it again!

It's that time of year when the ghosts, goblins, and ghouls descend upon your neighborhood. TQS would like to see what you've created to scare away some of these ghastly apparitions.

Come and share your spooky quilt, your enchanted tablerunner, or your truly terrifying table topper. Simply go to the THE FORUM on the navigation bar and go to Scrap Bag: Everything Else: Halloween Show & Tell. It's simple to upload a photo to the Forum.

Select the Upload attachment tab on the middle section of your screen. Hit the Choose File button to select the photo off of your computer and then press the Add the file button. That's all there is to it.

If you want to know what your post is going to look like, hit the Preview button. Once you are happy with your post, hit the Submit button and you're done.

This is the time to put on a frightening show! Come on, scare us to death!

According to the October 16 C&T Publishing BlogThe City Quilter was selected by Zagat’s 2013 New York City Shopping Guide as the best “fabric/notions” store in New York City in the just-published 2013 edition.  It was also one of a handful receiving the designation of “Zagat Top Spot” stores that had the “highest ratings, popularity and importance.”

Here is what Zagat’s Guide had to say:

The “quilt addicted” find their “paradise” at this recently expanded “fabric supermarket” in the Chelsea art district, “showcasing the newest trends” for serious crafters and stocking beautiful cotton fabrics (including NYC-themed prints), notions, patterns and books; expert sales people teach classes and welcome newcomers into “a real community of stitchers”, and a separate gallery devoted to contemporary art quilts is worth a visit alone.

Captain John and Alex were there last year when the ArtQuilt GalleryNYC, the gallery located next The City Quilter was getting ready to open. John took this video when they stopped by to see Cathy Izzo and Dale Riehl, co-owners of The City Quilter as they were preparing for the opening of the gallery and an exhibit by Daphne Taylor.

Coming next to the gallery is Judi Blaydon / Variations - pieced quilts and fabric altars from November 6 to December 15, 2012.  A gallery talk takes place on Tuesday, November 6 at 6pm.

Don't forget to stop by and visit when you are in NYC.

We return to the home of Betsy and Richard Ehrenberg in Santa Fe to welcome self-described "late bloomer" -AKA fiber artist, teacher, and author - Karen Eckmeier, who demonstrates how she uses overlapping and topstitched fabric strips to create her delightful "accidental landscape" quilts.

In addition, Karen shares ideas for adapting her versatile technique for use on garments, and Lilo and Elena model some of Karen's wearable creations. (You'll need to watch to discover why you'll always find a "lucky lizard" stitched into Karen's show quilts.)

The episode concludes with a tour of the Ehrenberg home, Casa de Vidrio (House of Glass), which houses the couple's amazing collection of contemporary art glass.

Positive Energy 4 is a quilt Karen Eckmeier created using her "Layered Curves and Peaks" technique.

Here is what Karen says about her technique, "I like the term “playing” with fabric. The more I can touch and manipulate fabric, the happier I am. My “Layered Curves” technique began in 1997 when I got frustrated with the tedious process of curved piecing. I just wasn’t enjoying the sewing stage anymore – so I tried cutting wild  curves into the fabric, ironing the edges under ¼”, then topstitching  to another fabric, I would cut the underneath fabric away and continue the cutting/layering/topstitching process until I either ran out of fabric pieces or I got bored. The result was a happy combination of two techniques – curved piecing and fabric collage."

Positive Energy 4 is 33" x 43."  You can learn about Karen at her website, www.quilted-lizard.com.

5153_the_daily_blog4.jpgFor the past 3 years AccuQuilt has dedicated its time and support for the American Heart Association and its Go Red for Women Expo in Omaha, NE.

This year's theme was "Make the Right Choice...Go Red!" and was held at the
Embassy Suites in LaVista, Neb. This annual event was held to raise funds and
awareness, educating guests on the dangers of heart disease and supporting AHA efforts through the "Go Red For Women" campaign.

"It's always an honor to be a part of this event and it always feels good to know that I am part of a company that goes out of its way to support this cause," said Linda Pumphrey, Global Sales Manager for AccuQuilt. "Heart disease has touched many of us and working with AccuQuilt and the amazing people
involved in the Go Red for Women campaign is something we all look forward to every year."

The Keynote Speaker for the event was Dr. Joann Schaefer, MD. Schaefer is the state's Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Division of Public Health for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Her personal story of overcoming the obstacles surrounding a liver transplant and the challenges of her recovery was part of a heartfelt message that inspired guests offering words
of encouragement, support, and empowerment.

Education played a major role in the event as a health expo and breakout sessions gave guests the opportunity to learn more about heart disease, share experiences, and get excited about heart health. A silent auction offered "Purse-inality" and an opportunity for guests to donate to the cause and take
home a token of the event. A dinner, Keynote presentation, and program gave guests an inspired look into the issues surrounding the fight against heart disease, the number 1 killer of women.

This event is the premier annual event for Omaha's year-round Go Red For Women campaign. It's main goal is to empower women, reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke, and inspire them to lead heart-healthy lives.

About Go Red for Women:
Since 2004, Go Red For Women, a program sponsored by the American Heart Association, has captured the energy, passion and intelligence of women to work collectively to wipe out heart disease -- the No. 1 killer of women. Go Red For Women engages women and the men who love them to embrace the cause. Healthcare providers, celebrities and politicians also elevate the cause and spread the word about women and heart disease. For more information about Go Red For Women,
please call 1-888-MY-HEART (1-888-694-3278) or visit GoRedForWomen.org. Go Red For Women is sponsored nationally by Macy's and Merck & Co., Inc.

Look who we ran across at PIQF last weekend, it's Verna Mosquera of The Vintage Spool. She was a guest in Episode 806: Having it All with Hand Applique. Verna shared her newest quilt, Secret Garden, which can be created as a block of the month (frame not included).  Wouldn't it be wonderful for spring?

The pattern for her quilt is available at www.thevintagespool.com.
