Bopping around the internet, you never know what you might find.  Here's a fun website, from the blue chair, created by Kati - a mom to 5-year old and 3-year old twins.  She loves to sew, quilt, and take photos and she somehow finds time to create quilting tutorials as well.  One of her latest tutorials is an adorable Christmas Tree Pillow which you could whip up with just your red, gold, and green scraps.

Click here to visit from the blue chair and see Kati's tutorials.

Prizewinning sister act Sue Nickels and Pat Holly combine precision patchwork and charming appliqué for the TQS 2013 Block-of-the-Month pattern. Pat and Sue have been quilting for more than 30 years, using machine techniques to put a contemporary spin on nineteenth-century folk art designs. The two sisters are in the quilt too, symbolized by the two little birds in the top border. They named the quilt after one of their favorite Beatles songs.

Your quiltmaking skills will soar as you follow along. Pat and Sue will guide you step-by-step through cutting, precision machine piecing, and stitched raw edge machine appliqué. You’ll master patch prep and stitching curves, inside and outside points, and reverse appliqué. The two will let you in on the secrets of their prizewinning details: bias stems, thread stems, and really small circles. Sue will give you the confidence to quilt fabulous free-motion feathers, and Pat will show you how to embellish the binding with decorative stitches.

The International Quilt Festival in Houston had a very moving exhibit, The Chevron Global AIDS Memorial Quilts: Life Stories in Fabric.  The quilts in this collection emphasize the continuing need for HIV/AIDS education, treatment and prevention.  Several of the quilts include blocks that memorialize someone lost to AIDS.  These blocks include personal items and remembrances of items or activities that person loved.  Each quilt was created by a Chevron employee volunteer.

This phenomenal quilt won 2nd place Embellished at the Houston International Quilt Festival.  A red ribbon for a red quilt, how appropriate!

Take a closer look at how Janet Stone mixed embellishments with the quilting.

You'll be amazed and delighted when you hear the GlassDuo perform Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy on the Glass Harp at the Chamber Music Festival in Bologna, Italy.  Ricky just might need to look into learning another instrument.
