Author and teacher Marsha McCloskey loves complex blocks, and brings a "suitcase" full of piecing techniques and tips to the International Museum of Folk Arts in Santa Fe, our location for this "star-studded" episode.

Along the way, Marsha demonstrates how to draft and piece a miniature Ohio Star block using her bias-strip-piecing method and shows how to stitch super-precise half-square-triangle units.

She also reveals what she calls "stupid sewing," shares a great use for leftover blocks and scraps, and gets a big surprise from Alex.

As an added bonus, Marsha C. Bol, director of the Museum of International Folk Art, shares the history and vast collection of folk art items housed and displayed at our day's taping site.

Susan Brubaker Knapp and the International Quilt Association need your help to save the thimble! Monopoly is planning to retire one of its iconic game tokens.  The current tokens are the car, a boot, a Scottie dog, a battleship, a tophat, an iron, a wheelbarrow, and a thimble.  We can't let the thimble be retired and you can help with your vote on Facebook and you can also support the IQA.

If you are on Facebook, you can vote (before Feb. 6) to save the thimble here: https://apps.facebook.com/saveyourtoken/

To help publicize this effort, Susan has  designed a logo for International Quilt Association. You can order a t-shirt or 100 other Save the Thimble products to help save the thimble and support International Quilt Association here:http://www.cafepress.com/dd/75759578

You can watch Susan in Episode 901 - State-of-the-Art Quilting: Tradition Meets Innovation.

5367_kaffefassettdetail.jpg‘Kaffe Fassett – A Life in Colour’ is a celebration of the work of one of the great practitioners of contemporary craft. This exhibition, the first in London since Kaffe Fassett’s record-breaking show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1988, features over 100 works within a dramatic installation designed by Sue Timney.

Exhibition highlights include extravagantly-coloured 9-foot-wide knitted shawls, coats and throws, patchwork fabrics shown in a glorious selection of quilts, as well as items especially created for this exhibit and not seen in public before. The design also features a ‘feeling’ wall that allows visitors to touch and better understand the textiles on display and their construction.

From his childhood in the creative community of Big Sur, California, to his career as a painter, and later as a knitwear and textile designer in London from the 1960s to the present day, Kaffe’s ability to blend pattern, texture and colour has won him a dedicated following of enthusiasts. The exhibit, held at the Fashion and Textile Museum will run from 22 March to 29 June, 2013.
