Been looking for something to do with all those selvages? Hate to see even a bit of fabric go to waste? How about making a skirt like Linda Baxter Lasco did? Linda is an author and senior editor with AQS responsible for many of the New Quilts from an Old Favorite books.  How cute is this?  What are you going to do with your selvages?

Sure an artist can make a pictorial quilt, BUT can the rest of us?  Sue says YES and shows us how.

Quilt artist and teacher Sue Rasmussen began her sewing career as an 11-year-old on an old version 830 Bernina purchased for her by her dad. In this show, she joins the TQS gang on location at the Main Street Quilting Company in Bozeman, MT.

Along the way, she shares loads of good info on fabric choices, construction, and even on using your iPad for creating templates!

Then we visit the Coffee Creek Quilters, whose quilting classes for women incarcerated at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, OR, have dramatically changed the lives of the participants.

Great lessons. Don't miss this or Sharon Schamber's  3 special online lessons coming soon...

Do you like this quilt? Would you like the pattern or the kit? Let Ricky know by taking his poll.

Ricky designed his latest pattern with you in mind! Gaelic Blessing is a variation on the Double Irish Chain pattern and features a beautiful Celtic Cross in the center. The central Celtic cross is an inspirational Irish icon. Ricky's dear quilting friend from Belfast says, "Most Celtic patterns are for smaller items like cushions or wall hangings.  How wonderful to have a blessing on your bed!" If you are Irish - have Irish heritage - like Ireland - like The Celtic Women - believe in Leprechauns - enjoy Guinness - wear green on March 17th - or can spell "Ireland" - you might want to make this one!

The quilt is created from Ricky's beautiful hand-dyed fabrics and the pattern and kit will be available near the end of March.  Ricky promises that this easy-to-make pseudo traditional quilt will find the luck of the Irish rubbing off on you.

Do you like this quilt? Would you like the pattern or the kit?

Carousel Stampede (72" x 93") by Cathy Wiggins of Macon, NC was the winner of the Director's Award, sponsored by Superior Threads, at the 2013 Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase. Take a closer look at the detailed painting and quilting, which horse would you choose to ride?

Artist Statement: When I was young, it was always a big decision as to which horse to ride on the carousel. Which one of these beautiful horses would you ride? Beginning with white muslin, I base painted the background and horses using textile mediums followed by detailed shading with Shiva Paintstiks. It took about 300 hours of painting, 250 hours of quilting and another 40 hours or so of applying the 5000+ crystals.

There is still limited seating available for the Karen Stone Workshop at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, March 21-23.   Here's what you'll learn in Karen's Clamshell: Decorative One-Patch class:

In nutshell (or a clamshell), the class explores passion (interpretive color work and personal palette planning), improvisation (making stuff up), and execution (realizing it in fabric). And it's about empowering the quilter - you - as colorist, designer, technician, and artist.
