TQS Member, LenaCab, is sharing quilts from the Fifth All-Ukrainian Festival of Patchwork. The theme for this exhibition was "Kaleidoscope.

LenaCab says that in Ukraine there is no guild, but several quilter's groups who act independently. She belongs to the quilter's group, Ukrainian Center of Art and Culture.  She is sharing the quilts of her group which is headed by Svetlana Dolesko.

Her group is the only one in Ukraine who received instruction from Jinny Beyer over three consecutive years (2009-2011).  She taught them to hand sew and so most of them sew by hand.

A newly engaged young woman, with a 12-karat ring!, is cause for a fashion show of 1940's evening gowns.  Just to show that there is nothing new in the fashion universe, you'll catch a glimpse of a bare midriff and even a "hoodie."  This must have been made some time after World War II as they mention "No skimping on fabrics this season."

This week's puzzle, Positive Energy 4 - was created using Karen's "layered Curves and Peaks" technique.

“Layered Curves" (aka Layered Waves) makes curves faster and easier to do than curved piecing and unlike the raw edges in fabric collage, the edges in “Layered Curves” are neat and tidy.  It is also the subject of her books  "Layered Waves" (2009) and "Wearable Waves" (2012). Dramatic angles and points can be also be made using this technique, which contrast beautifully with the flowing lines.

Harumi made this quilt for ther granddaughter's birthday.  She was happy because her son had a girl and she had brought up boys.  Harumi drew the spool pattern and printed photos of her grandaughter which are included in the quilt along with her growth record.  Happy Birthday is machine pieced and hand appliqued and hand quilted.

This time we included two detail photos. Be sure to see the "Partial View" also.
