Need a new hairstyle for the holidays?  Why not choose from one of these?  After watching you may want to craft your own hats and headbands...

Also, does this mean Alex's glasses were stylish?...(See below video)

Mary Kay took advantage of the Bernina Semiannual Sale to buy a pretty new machine.  She also made sure she bought it at a small business on Small Business Saturday (have to keep those independent quilt shops open).

What did you buy over the weekend?  Did you treat yourself to something special or finish up your holiday shopping?

P.S. The amazing Bernina sale continues through Dec 2 (that's today).

Pat and Sue are very interested in edge treatments for their quilts, and they love to look at old quilts and get ideas for different edge treatments.  For this quilt, you could use the red dot fabric and make a nice simple binding.

In this lesson, Pat will show you how to embellish the binding fabric with decorative machine embroidery.  She will also show you how attach the binding.

Beginning Monday, November 9, Star Members will be able to see more of Lyric as she takes a different direction in her work in Show 1710: Conquering Abstract Fears. She will show Alex and Ricky how to move seamlessly and fearlessly from a recognizable form to a more abstract design, which she then turns into a fusible art piece.  She helps them to direct their focus on line and shape, rather than an actual object.  She shares her transition from the use of bold colors to a preference for soft neutrals, emphasizing composition and texture.  She then demonstrates transfer printing techniques, and the use of foil to add zing to a project.

But in the meantime, enjoy this slideshow with some of Lyric's previous work.

Lyric Kinard is sharing beautiful examples of her work with TQS. Learn more about Lyric and her work in Show 1311: Mixed Media and the ABCs of Good Design. Lyric, the 2011 Teacher of the Year, demystifies the basics of screen printing using a thermofax machine and a few simple tools, and shares lots of creative ideas for using beads to add color and texture to your work. The episode closes on a lovely note as Lyric, a classically trained professional musician, offers a sampling of Bach on the French Horn.

Today's Zoom quilt is Four Square by Tim Nash of Houston Texas.  it was created using a longarm machine and was inspired by Linda V. Taylor's 2012 class at Quilt Festival, "Beginning Longarm Quilting."

Artist's Statement:  Originally intended as a practice piece for feathered borders, this project began with no planning and no design.  After finishing the top row of feathers, I spend a a month drawing different designs for the four quadrants and used many patterns and techniques learned at Linda Taylor's beginning longarm quilting class at the 2012 Quilt Festival.  To finish, I had to remember how I stitched the feathers, now hidden on the machine's take-up bar.
