This is Amsterdam Alley: The Shortcut Between by Leslie T. Jenison. It measures 48" x 36" and the materials used include: silk, cotton, canvas, dye, paint, bamboo felt, both cotton and polyester thread, along with Mistyfuse fusible.  It is currently part of a private collection.

Artist Statement:

This quilt was inspired by a photograph I took during a trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands.  I felt it would be an interesting challenge to expand the borders of the image into a quilt.  The dye-painted graffiti is based on the colorful images I was exposed to in other parts of the city.

Meet Barbara Black a retired Alabama accountant and former Marine. Her quilt, "Red and White - By the Numbers," was selected as the commemorative quilt for Ruby Jubilee, the 40th celebration of the International Quilt Festival. We caught up with Barbara at the show and asked her to talk about her quilt and the volunteer work she does every year in Houston.

The quilt auction for the Inspired By quilts, which benefits the Quilt Alliance, has begun on Ebay.  Now is your chance to grab a great quilt and help a great cause.

The Quilt Alliance's annual small quilt auction began Monday, November 10 on eBay. This year's theme, "Inspired By" attracted 95 entries from both amateur and professional quilters with techniques ranging from hand piecing and applique to digital transfer and painted surface, from hand quilting to longarm quilting. The 16" x 16" wall quilts were made and donated by artists from all over the U.S. and around the world. The auction is one of the Alliance’s biggest fundraisers and will be conducted on eBay in three groups of around 30 quilts each. The bidding will begin at $60 for all quilts and it's a great way to help the Alliance fulfill it's mission while getting some holiday shopping done!

Search Classrooms

Looking for a class, but can't remember who taught it? Go to Learn--Search Classrooms. You can click on the column titles to sort by CLASSROOM or ARTIST or TECHNIQUE. But even better, use the search box. Search for Lyric Kinard's Pieced Scarf Class by typing "scarf." If you click the blue title in the Classroom column on the far left, you will go to her classroom (but you must be logged in). Give it a try.

As part of the "500 Traditional Quilts" Exhibit in Houston (you can buy a book of all the quilts at the Texas Quilt Museum) this beautiful silk quilt by German quilter Brigette Morgenroth was on display. The shine of the silk enhanced the already dynamic design.
