Alex's friend told her to check out the Steady Betty Booth at Paducah. There she found an ironing mat that you place right next to your machine. It is made of fiber that can take heat and doesn't let your fabrics slip. Here are ways it helps quilters:

  1. Press blocks without pleats
  2. Makes marking easier
  3. Works with wool
  4. Easy to load embroidery hoops
  5. A quick design board for your blocks
  6. Works on tops, blocks, and embroidered fabrics

There are now three Steady Betty choices. The fabric on wood version that is now 50% lighter, and the super light and movable version and a NEW larger version (currently sold out of our allotment). Take a look.

Wouldn't you love a quilt by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly? It would have great color, design, and quilting. Sue and Pat made "Lovely Libby Circles," a 30" x 30" quilt that was inspired by Libby's Quilt "Circle the Date" (2008). It was for an auction to benefit Libby's medical expenses. Alex had to have it (it was on auction for about half a day and then Alex said "Forget this!" and the auctioning was over). There are different quilting approaches and stitches all over the quilt (just like Libby would do). Some of the blocks were dark and hard to show, but you will love what you can see.

Congratulations to Margaret Solomon Gunn of Gorman, Maine, for her 1st Place Quilt Springtime in the Geisha's Garden. This 59" x 60" quilt was created with hand appliqué, bias work, crystals, free-motion quilting, matchstick quilting, paper piecing, and piped edging. (Whew!?) It is a lot of work just to type all those techniques much less to have put them all in a quilt.

Did you miss the 2nd and 3rd Place Quilts?

Jen Jones’ unique exhibition “Unforgettable – Collection of Antique Welsh Quilts” was on display at Pour l'Amour du Fil 2017.

Jen discovered Welsh quilts over 40 years ago and fell head over heels with these antique quilts composed of spectacular designs.

She has been collecting Welsh quilts ever since and founded The Welsh Quilt Centre.

Some quilts are released in her book “Welsh Quilts” published by Quiltmania Editions.

Thank you to Quiltmania for the photos.
