Congratulations to Margaret Solomon Gunn of Gorman, Maine, for her 1st Place Quilt Springtime in the Geisha's Garden. This 59" x 60" quilt was created with hand appliqué, bias work, crystals, free-motion quilting, matchstick quilting, paper piecing, and piped edging. (Whew!?) It is a lot of work just to type all those techniques much less to have put them all in a quilt.

Did you miss the 2nd and 3rd Place Quilts?

Quoting Dot:
Beautiful quilt. What is matchstick quilting???

Matchstick Quilting is quilting in straight lines less than 1/4 inch apart. Often quilted with threads different colors than background.

What a master she is!

How do I ever learn to do this? I have only started to quilt last year. Is there a pattern or anything I can do to learn this beautiful work?
