Cassandra Ireland Beaver won 1st Place two years in a row with her straight-line quilting. So what did she do next? How about "No Straight-Line Quilting." This quilt, titled iSpy, is 44" x 48" and was entered in the Small Wall Quilts - Quilters Choice category at AQS Paducah Spring 2017. The quilt is square, but I didn't see any other straight lines.

The Quilt Scout, Mary Fons, has written an intriquing article for Quilts, Inc. regarding the Century of Progress Quilt Contest scandal which took place in 1933. It's a fascinating story which resonates today.

Alex is always busy at quilt shows and regrets that she doesn't always have time to see the quilts. However, this quilt stopped her as she ran from one venue to another. Jacquelyn (Jaki) Rowe entered in Paducah 2017 this 60" x 76" Modern Quilt entitled Slice (Variation). The bold graphics are a variation of the Slice Pattern by Marjorie Rhine of Quilt Design NW.

Gretchen Crozier writes,
"I struggled in school until I got my hands on fabric, then magic happened for me. I made clothing and theatrical costumes. The quilting bug hit me hard in the early 1990s. The quilts I am showing in this exhibit were all made in response to various challenges. I enjoy the thrill of a new challenge! My guild, Amador Valley Quilters, has stimulating projects requiring the use of a variety of media and techniques."
See Gretchen's "Life's a Challenge" exhibit at the Pacific International Quilt Festival coming this October to the Santa Clara Convention Center.
