Okay - it's not exaclty Zoom, but Alex's cat, Sparrow, seems to be enjoying a conversation with an "interesting" choice of friend.

(It's an Internet rule that we have to show at least two cute cat pictures a year or we lose our license. Please don't send emails. It's out of our hands.)

You could get lost staring into the eyes of this mountain lion created by Patt Blair. Winter Hunt was the winner of Best Pictorial Quilt at Road to California 2010.

Patt teaches you how to draw and paint a tiger's face in Show 510: Quilts Through Two Artists' Eyes, also featuring Tammy Finkler.

Based on a photo of her friend's kitten, Dot is probably the quilt in Carol Morrissey's Exaggerated Pointillism series with the most apropos name. The difficult part she says, as most painters and sketch artists would tell you, is getting the eyes just right. In this instance, Carol knocked it out of the park as Dot's eyes stare right back at you from any angle you look.

Learn from Carol by watching Show 2710.

We continue our selection of quilts exhibited in 2019 at the Houston International Quilt Festival as part of their 45th Anniversary, the Sapphire Anniversary. The Sapphire Celebration exhibit is described as:

"Quilters have long used the color blue to symbolize trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Sapphire is also the chosen gem to celebrate 45th anniversaries—which International Quilt Festival is doing this year (2019)! These new and antique blue and white quilts will be suspended from the ceiling in a spectacular and unforgettable display."

To be a part of the exhibit, quilts had to fit the following criteria:

  • Entries may be Traditional, Modern or Art.
  • Entries must have been made between 1974 and 2019.
  • The minimum size is 50” x 50”

Please enjoy the thirty-eighth quilt from the exhibition by an Unknown Maker.

Sue de Vanny took inspiration for Cat Groove from a number of different sources. The "artist Wassily Kandinsky, Feline salt and pepper shakers of the 60/70' and the music 'Something for Cat' from Breakfast at Tiffany's soundtrack." Winning Second Place Modern at PIQF 2019, this machine pieced and machine appliquéd quilt kicks it up a notch and gets the groove going like it's nobody's business.

Cat Groove by Sue de Vanny of Greenvale, Australia won Second Place Modern at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.
