Betty Busby's quilt, Dark Lichen, is inspired by macro-scale images of lichen which can grow on even bare rocks in the desert. She created this quilt using machine appliqué, fusing, and painting.

Laura McDowell Hopper, Curator at the Pick Museum of Anthropology, wants to help you preserve your family's quilt history. A large amount of that history is lost because wonderful quilts have not been carefully preserved or documented. She is on a mission to help change that.
Here are the subjects she discuses in her article on the WeAllSew.com site:
  • Handle with Care
  • No More Cedar Chests
  • Fold with Gentle Curves
  • Avoid Light Damage
  • Document Your Quilts

Alex and Ricky welcome back Wendy Grande, who recently fell in love with T-shirt quilts when looking for a way to create a memory quilt by incorporating her daughter's college sorority shirts. Along with tips and tricks for creating design layouts, Wendy shares ways to personalize a quilt for the recipient.

The recent addition of a grandchild allowed Wendy to create a special baby memento WIP quilt featuring the onesies, shirts, buttons and other personal items. This show’s tips, tricks and personal touches, definitely put the "T" in T-shirt quilts.

Star Members can watch Wendy in Show 2203: Putting the "T" in T-shirt Quilts, when it debuts Sunday, January 28, 2018.

The Broderie Perse exhibit at Houston 2017 was stunning. This is a fun quilt with many techniques. Usually, we take a picture and move on quickly. This quilt we lingered on for quite awhile. Take time to look at the old fabrics. Enjoy.

What can I say but, WOW...the Panama Canal and Sue Spargo all on one trip! Definitely an epic adventure! Stitching, volcanos, ancient ruins, handmade chocolate...yummm...and really good coffee!

I love classes with Sue Spargo because she has a relaxed way about her which makes learning all those stitches less stressful. The other advantage of any Sue Spargo class is that at least half of any class is made up of repeat students, which means you will have more stitching support!

This cruise was no different, and it wasn't the first stitch rodeo for over half the class. If Sue was busy with stitch support, there was always someone else who could help you. It was great meeting stitchers from all over the nation who shared a common passion. Several of the students were starting a new class project, but a lot of us brought our own projects to stitch.

I hope you will enjoy the photos and be inspired by some of my classmate's work. I had a wonderful time and left the cruise with an ever hopeful heart that I will be able to finish ALL my UFO's!

The DAR needlework collection is going live! Martha Woodnut's darning sampler is one of dozens now visible online both at the Sampler Archive Project and on the DAR website. Over 100 of their samplers are on the SAP website, and over 60 are on the DAR site, with more added each week. Their goal is to get all of their over 300 needleworks onto the Museum's online database in the next several months (we're working on other areas of the collection, too). Keep checking back for more!
