A machine quilter beyond compare, Jenny K. Lyon has created a quilt that just shimmers with the essence of fall. Golden Moments was Jenny's first quilt to land in the Houston Quilt Festival back in 2010 and it's not hard to see why it was selected for exhibit. The machine quilting is stunning. Take a few minutes to let your eyes wander over the quilt.

Watch Jenny in Show 2404.

Jenny used Radiance fabric (a blend of silk and cotton) to give shimmer to her quilt. Click here for some of her tips with working with the fabric.

We just liked the name of of Patty's Quilt, Yes Ma'am Damn!, and the story behind it.

Patty Murphy writes in her blog:

Yes Ma’am Damn! won three blue ribbons at the 2006 Georgia State Fair:  one for best piecing, one for best machine quilting, and a blue ribbon because it’s awesome (my words, not those of the judges)!

The quilt was named for my friend. She tells me I was “raised right” because I always say ma’am when responding to her. My friend is in her early sixties, so it seems to me that it’s a polite reply. She is a quilter and got me onto a batik strip piecing kick.  I took all my odds and ends of batik strips and stitched them together, cut the pieces into squares, then triangles, then assembled the parts.

You need this book next to your sewing machine so that when you have that impenetrable 2 am thread jam (or another late night issue), you can troubleshoot and keep sewing!

Written by an expert sewing machine technician with more than 42 years of experience, his in-depth visual guide to sewing machine use tells you everything you need to know to keep any brand of sewing machine happy and solve those sewing machine issues (thread jam anyone?) that can spoil your sewing session.

Honoring the Heroines of the Civil Rights Movement: Patricia A. Montgomery

September 5 - October 14, 2018

Patricia A. Montgomery's swing coats illustrate African America women's contributions to the Civil Rights Movement.  Each coat represents one unsung heroine such as Ella Josephine Baker, who mentored young civil rights leaders, or Claudette Colvin, a teenager who refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama nine months before Rosa Parks’ arrest.

The combination of African American quilting traditions, digital images, pastel drawings and thread work are designed into a wearable object, detailing the stories of the Civil Rights Movement heroines.

Libby Williamson has constructed many a quilt with traditional quilting techniques, her current passion is in the making of art quilts using layers of painted and dyed fabrics, appliquéd layers of free-motion stitched components, and embedded found objects. She is a proud hoarder of all things “fiber” and thrives in a world of stitch and sew.

Well, this "hoarder" makes fabulous quilts and we could spend hours pouring over the different stitches, objects, and layers she uses in her designs.

Different But The Same, 27”x 46”, is no exception.

Anna and G On The Road have been on the move looking for interesting places and shops along the way...with Enzo also! As we left the Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington and headed down to Sauvie Island for some quiet time, I researched if there was anything interesting along the way. Having a smart phone/iPad makes hunting for quilt stops as we travel so much easier! Thus, we discovered Halloween Town or as the US Map calls it St. Helens, Oregon. St. Helen's is a Columbia River Town which was a stop on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. It was so named for its view of the active Volcano St. Helen's. But, its current claim to fame is as a movie backdrop for "Halloweentown" a 1998 Disney film featuring the late Debbie Reynold's and the Twilight Series (Bella's house is in town). The town of St. Helen's has embraced its reputation as a place where one can enjoy the spirit of Halloween with a month long celebration!

The celebration draws ghouls from all over the world to participate in pumpkin lighting ceremonies, a Monster Dash, and Haunted House Tours to name a few. And, can I say again...it is a month long celebration! Which of course includes a Quilt Show that has a Halloween themed section. As we drove down the Columbia River Highway a quilt shop sign caught our attention which meant a stop at Fibers & Stitches.

We will have a video of the shop on the Quilt Roadies but, let me tell you it was bustling with quilter's working on projects. There are two open sew days a week where quilters from around the area can gather, share, and maybe make some headway on their projects. The shop has a variety of fabrics, but naturally being near St. Helen's, the Halloween selection is popular! The Colombia River Piecemakers Guild Show (an every other year show) is on Oct. 13th this year and features a "Stitchin in Halloweentown" exhibit with many of the local quilters working hard to finish their entries! Mary Ann's interpretation of the Halloween quilt by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin is sure to be a contender!!

I hope you enjoyed this stop along the road with us and we really enjoy your comments!
